Treasurer Linda Marchalk reminds all Schuylkill County dog owners that 2018 dog licenses are now past due.

March is Dog Awareness Month and if you have not already purchased your license, Marchalk asks that you purchase your dog license now. State dog wardens began canvassing the local communities this month and continue throughout the year. Dog wardens can issue citations which are a summary offense for failure to license a dog and dog owners can be cited to pay a maximum fine of $300 for each unlicensed dog. State law requires that all dogs three months or older be licensed by January 1.

An annual license is $8.50 and a lifetime license is $51.50. If the dog is spayed or neutered, the annual fee is $6.50 while a lifetime license is $31.50. Discounts are available for senior citizens and people with disabilities. Licenses are available at the Schuylkill County Treasurer’s Office or your local dog agent. For your convenience, you can also go online at www.padoglicense.com to purchase your license. A list of 2018 Dog Agents and a downloadable application is available online at www.co.schuylkill.pa.us/Offices/Treasurer/Treasurer.asp

A fire in Ringtown Friday evening damaged the homes of three families.

Around 8:50pm, Friday, fire crews were called to 26 Main Street, Ringtown, for working structure fire.  Not long after crews arrived the fire was upgraded to a 2nd, then 3rd alarm calling in most of the northern Schuylkill County, Columbia County and Luzerne County fire units for a tanker task force.

Crews remained on scene fighting the fire for over an hour an a half before being downgraded back to 1st alarm fire around 10:30pm.  High winds were a factor in fighting the fire.  One firefighter also was reported to have been injured.

The fire destroyed the homes at 26, 28, and 30 Main Street displacing the 3 families that lived in the homes.  The American Red Cross will be helping those families that include 6 adults and 2 teenagers.  All pets were safely rescued as well.

This was the 3rd fire that Schuylkill County Fire fighters battled on Friday along with numerous other calls for the weather.
