Butler Township Police Seek Person Involved in Hit and Run in Lavelle

The Butler Township Police are looking for a person involved in a hit and run over the weekend.

According to police, the person in the photography was involved in a hit and run located along Route 901 in Lavelle on Sunday morning around 4:30am.  

The person they are seeking is said to have been driving a black Dodge Dakota.

Mahanoy Township Chief of Police Announces Intent to Seek Candidacy for Magisterial District Judge

On Monday, Mahanoy Township Chief of Police, Brandon Alexander, of Frackville announced his intent to seek the candidacy for Magisterial District Judge for District Court 21-2-01, Frackville.

Serving in law enforcement for over a decade and working for the community, Chief Alexander believes he has the common sense, humility, open-mindedness, firmness, patience as well as the experience to serve the people within the district. 

"It is has always been my duty and responsibility to ensure that people within the community I serve are treated with compassion, fairness, and with respect. The court should always treat people fairly, just and without prejudice. If elected, I will continue to treat people in this manner just like I've done serving the community as the Chief of Police." Alexander has many years of experience in the courtroom and feels this experience has prepared him for this position.

Chief Alexander is well-known for being an active member of the community for his years of volunteer coaching for the boys and girls basketball teams for North Schuylkill Jr. Spartans, football for the Frackville Mountaineers and Shenandoah Jr. Blue Devils, and is also a member of the Elks Lodge in Frackville. When not working, coaching, or attending events for his children, Chief Alexander can be found helping neighbors within his community. 

Chief Alexander is a family man married to Christina Alexander and they have four children, Maliyah, Elijah, Ezrah, and Jasiah.

Chief Alexander attended Wingate University in North Carolina and later went on to earn his ACT 120 Certification at Lackawanna College to pursue his career in Law Enforcement.  He has also received the endorsement of the Fraternal of Police Lodge 25.

District 21-2-01 includes Ashland, the Altamont Precinct of West Mahanoy Township, Butler Township, Frackville, Gilberton, Girardville, Gordon, North Union Township, Ringtown Borough, Ryan Township, and Union Township.

George H. Montgomery, 45 of Frackville, passed away on Jan 16th in Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville. He was the husband of Candice (Reber) Montgomery for 13 years. 

 Born in Ashland, he was the son of the late George H and Linda (Marhon) Montgomery. George was most know for being active in all of the local area fire companies since he was 18 years old including, Englewood Fire Co., Altamont, Washington and Goodwill Fire Companies. His volunteer efforts had been for over 27 years. He was a 1993 graduate of North Schuylkill Jr Sr. High School, Ashland. 

Surviving in addition to his wife Candi is one daughter, Aryana Montgomery, at home; sisters, Melissa M. Perneta and Sharon L. Yeager, both of Frackville, Kelly A. Montgomery, Shenandoah, PA, Wendy L. Weikel, Ashland, PA; Extended family, aunt Rosalie Bova, uncles John Marhon and joe Marhon all of Frackville, 9 nieces and nephews and cousins 

 A viewing will be held locally for George on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland. Cramp Hummel & Mark J. Hummel Funeral Homes of Reading have charge of his arrangements 610-375-4337.

Leroy H. Bressler, Jr.
, 82, of Llewellyn, passed away Sunday, January 17th, at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown.

Born in Auburn, PA on July 7, 1938, a son of the late Kathryn (Lubold) and Leroy Bressler, Sr.

He was the husband of Janet L. (Tobias) Bressler.

He was a member of Phoenix Park Union Church, Phoenix Park.

He was formerly employed as a camera operator at Pennsylvania Industry for the Blind and Handicap.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Virginia Mitchell, Llewellyn, Timother Bressler, Llewellyn, Kevin Bressler husband of Denise, Tremont and Yvonne Cunningham wife of Michael, Pottsville; grandchildren Rochelle, Ashley, Virginia, David, Sarah, Anthony, Rosalee and Abbylee; five great grandchildren.

Leroy is preceded in death by his sister Doris Davenport and granddaughter Jacklyn Zelinsky.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held 2:30 on Wednesday, January 20th at Phoenix Park Union Church in Phoenix Park, with Pastor George Somers officiating.

A viewing for family and friends will be held 1:30 PM on Wednesday, January 20th at Phoenix Park Union Church in Phoenix Park.

Interment will be private.

Russel G. Lower, Jr.
, 72, of Tower City, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at UPMC-Pinnacle, Harrisburg, after a courageous fight against COVID-19.

Born in Pottsville, July 8, 1948, a son of the late Russel Sr. and Lillian Johs Lower.

Russ was a 1966 graduate of Williams Valley High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and was employed for 36 years as a Technician for the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. After retiring he worked for 10 years in the Administrative Officer for the Pennsylvania Air National Air Guard, all based out of the headquarters at Ft. Indiantown Gap, Annville.

He was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church, a life member of the Liberty Hose Company #1, Williamstown; a life member of the Dauphin County Fireman's Association; a life member of the Williamstown American Legion Post #239 and its' former military band and a member of West End Fire Company. He also participated with the Williams Valley Alumni Band and was formerly active with the Williams Valley Marching Band Boosters.

Russ was very community minded, he was instrumental in forming the Porter - Tower Girl's Softball Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Laila, the apple of his eye. He was a fan of the Eagles, Phillies, Penn State and Williams Valley sports. Russ took great pride in his home, and always looked forward to decorating for every holiday.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Brenda Girton Lower; two daughters, Lauren Shutt and her husband Larry, Orwin and Heather Zerembo and her husband Robert, Tower City; one granddaughter, Laila Shutt.

A public walk through viewing following all CDC guidelines will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 6-8 pm from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc. Tower City. Russ will be laid to rest privately with military honors in the Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Russ' name should be made to West End Fire Company, 326 Rear, West Grand Avenue, Tower City, PA 17980 or the Williamstown United Methodist Church, 150 East Street, Williamstown, PA 17098. American Red Cross Assisting Family of Five After Fire in Shenandoah

The American Red Cross is assisting a family of 5 after a fire in Shenandoah Monday evening.

Just after 8:30pm, Monday, emergency personnel were dispatched to 322 West Penn Street, Shenandoah, for a house fire.

As crews arrived they found smoke coming from the home and alerted they had a working fire.

Firefighters found flames in the basement of the home and had the fire under control within an hour.

A family of five was not home at the time of the fire and the cause is still under investigation.

Pottsville Police Release Statistics on Use of Naloxone

The Pottsville Bureau of Police have released details on their use of Naloxone over the past 5 years.

Over the past several years, we've certainly seen a rise in overdoses in Schuylkill County, the state of Pennsylvania, and across the country.  

The battle against drug addiction is ongoing and while it's not stopping people from overdosing, Naloxone has been saving lives for those that have needed it and could have potentially died.

Naloxone is a an FDA approved medication that can be administered via injection or nasal spray to someone overdosing that will rapidly reverse and block the effects of opioids.

Police officers, EMT's, and first responders carry and are trained to use naloxone.

Recently the Pottsville Bureau of Police released statistics on their use of the drug.

According to Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, during calendar year 2020 the Pottsville Bureau of Police utilized Naloxone to reverse 27 potentially fatal opiate overdose in the city.

Wojciechowsky also says that his department began using Naloxone in 2016.  Since then Pottsville Police have had a total of 128 successful overdose reversals.  Those statistics show that the city's police saved on average 25 lives per year.

AMBER ALERT: Pennsylvania State Police Looking for Missing 1 Year Old from Philadelphia

The Pennsylvania State Police have issued an Amber Alert after a toddler went missing Tuesday morning.

According to police, the alert is for Nova White, 1, who was last seen with Ronald White, 32, in Philadelphia around 8:10am.

White is said to be driving a 1998 Green Colored Toyota Corolla.

Anyone who has information or has seen White or the vehicle, should call 911 or Philadelphia Police (215) 686-3174.

UPDATE:  2:45pm - The Amber Alert for the Missing 1 Year Old in Philadelphia has been cancelled. According to the PSP, the child has been recovered and is safe.





PPL Work to Take Place Along Route 61 This Week in Schuylkill County

PennDOT has announced PPL work will take place along Route 61 in Schuylkill County this week.

On Tuesday, it was announced that lane restrictions will be in place in North Manheim Township and Orwigsburg on Wednesday and Thursday along Route 61 south between Raring Drive and South Liberty Streets between 8:00am and 12:00pm.

Once work is completed in the first location, crews will move to New Castle Township between East Darkwater Road and St. Clair Borough.  Lane restrictions will be in place Thursday and Friday in both the north and southbound lanes between 8:30am and 3:00pm.

Delays should be expected in both locations while work is taking place.

Catherine Mary Bosna
, 93, of Pottsville, PA and formerly of Marlin, PA and Hellertown, PA, died on Monday, January 18, 2021 in Pottsville. She was a daughter of the late Anthony and Martha (nee Ambrulavage) Grenus. Having attended the former Blythe Township schools, Catherine was a top stitcher for local garment factories. A devout Christian, she had been raised in the Catholic faith. Catherine was firm but good hearted; loved family. She enjoyed playing cards and doing word puzzles and was a great cook. 

Catherine was the mother of three children, Susan, John, and David. The last of 8 siblings she was predeceased by Anthony Grenus, Jr., George Grenus, Anna Grenus, Mary Wasilko, Ella Rumbavage, Daniel Grenus, and Theresa Lavango. Catherine is survived by 2 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. 

Memorials in her name may be made to St. Nicholas Ukranian Catholic Church, 415 North Front Street, Minersville, PA 17954.

Paul L. Blankenhorn, Sr.
, 82, of South Manheim Twp., passed away Saturday, January 16th, at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown.

Born in South Manheim Twp., on February 21, 1938, a son of the late Edith (Laubenstine) and Herman Blankenhorn.

He was the husband of Edna C. (Donton) Blankenhorn, they celebrated 62 years of marriage.

He was a member of Bethesda Evangelical Congregational Church of Reedsville and the Schuylkill Masonic Lodge, Orwigsburg Chapter.

He was employed by the shoe factory as a stitcher.

Paul loved preparing holiday dinners and having the family gather together. He enjoyed hunting, especially raccoon hunting. His favorite times were to gather with Leon and Jerry on a Friday night to play cards and to take Joey, his dog, on van rides. Paul's door was always opened to anyone who needed it and was always ready to offer dinner or a coffee. He was a true lover of life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Roxanne Seltzer (Terry), Friedensburg, Paul L, Jr. (Tracy), Schuylkill Haven, Rodney Blankenhorn (Almeda "Moe") and Randall Blankenhorn (Angie), both of South Manheim Township; grandchildren Brandon (Desi), Alyssa (Rich), Kelsie (Ryan), Cassidy (Aaron), Savannah (Brandon), Brittany (Alex), Heather (Brad), Matt, Luke and Tanner; great grandchildren Brandon, Quinn, Ian, Parker, Havi, Aubrey, Daniel, Nicholas, Korbin, Lily, Paige, Ayden and two on the way; siblings Marion Bartolett, Carl "Skip" Blankenhorn, Carol Sullivan, Doris Brown, Karen Sylvester and Sharon Koch.

Paul is preceded in death by his grandson Christopher Blankenhorn and siblings Marvin, Vernon "Louie" and Harold "Butch" Blankenhorn, Emily Ney and Faye Potts.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM on Friday, January 22nd at Bethesda Evangelical Congregational Church of Reedsvillewith Rev. Mark Brooks officiating.

A viewing for family and friends will be held 9:30 AM on Friday, January 22nd at Bethesda Evangelical Congregational Church of Reedsville.

Barbara Ketterer, 86, of Drums, formerly of Lost Creek, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown.

Born July 4, 1934, in Marion Heights, she was a daughter of the late Metro and Anna (Hardish) Dunick.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ketterer, in 2006; three brothers, Andrew, Paul and Michael Dunick; three sisters, Rose Zubal, Mary Guthrie and Anna Dunick.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald Ketterer and his wife, Carol, of Frackville, and Brian Ketterer, of Hazleton; three daughters, MaryAnn Kotansky, of Hazleton, Jan Ankenbrant and her husband, Richard, of Pine Grove, and Cheryl Marshall and her husband, Paul, of Frackville; two brothers, Joseph Dunick, of Kulpmont, and Walter Dunick, of Coal Township; two sisters, Helen Ondish, of Baltimore, and Joanne Whalen, of Black Heath; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc., 9 N. Lehigh Ave., Frackville. The Rev. Brian Miller will officiate. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville.

Thomas G. Lecher, 87, of Pottsville, passed away on Monday at Seton Manor.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Theodore and Genevieve Holley Lecher. He was a 1951 graduate of Pottsville High School; and was an Army veteran of the Korean War, having served in Germany. He resided in Lowell, Massachusetts before returning to Pottsville. With his late sister, Dorothy, Tom operated Lecher’s Market, serving the Jalappa neighborhood for 35 years, and selling penny candy to generations of children that he called “Appleheads”.

He was a member of the former Mary Queen of Peace Church, Pottsville. He was also a member of the American Hose Company, Pottsville, and a member the Buck Fever Rod and Gun Club.

A talented dancer, Tom regularly attended dances at Buck Fever and other area venues. There’s little doubt that he’s now dancing with the nuns of Mary Queen of Peace Elementary School, who taught him his moves.

He was preceded in death by six siblings, Catherine Whalen, Robert Lecher, Joseph Lecher, William Lecher, Dorothy Lecher and James Lecher.

Tom is survived by nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville, on Tuesday from 6:00 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in St. Patrick Church, 319 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. Contributions are preferred to Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA, 18 Wertz Dr., Pine Grove, PA 17963.

Geraldine Alice Daglis
, age 93, of Reading, PA passed away at her son's home in Sinking Spring on Saturday, January 16th, 2021.

Born in Healing Springs, VA on November 27, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William B. and Fannie B. (Smith) Wheeler.

Geraldine was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Washington D.C., Class of 1944. She was a former member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Schuylkill Haven, before she moved to Reading.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Nicholas C. Daglis in 2004 and three sons: Michael W., Anthony B., and David A. Daglis

Geraldine is survived by a daughter Harriette T. Davis and her husband Robert, Middleton, DE; two sons: Constantine N. Daglis and his wife Wanda, Flying Hills, PA and Nicholas C. Daglis Jr. and his fiance' LaVenre Johnson, Sinking Spring, PA; seven grandchildren: Constance and Carnesia Daglis, both of New York, NY, Nicole Daglis, Staton Island, NY; Kiana Daglis, Exeter, PA, Rachael Davis, Middleton, DE, Marie Wilson, Pottsville, PA, and Carrissa Daglis, Flying Hills, PA; a great-grandson Damani Daglis, Exeter, PA; a great-granddaughter Alivia Watson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held private for the family

Interment will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in Schuylkill Haven.

Theresa (Dombrowski) Temborski, 75 of Frackville formerly of Shenandoah passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown.

Funeral services and interment in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Shenandoah will be private at the convenience of the family.

Margaret G. (Leskowsky) Frantz
, 75 of Frackville formerly of Shenandoah passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at her residence with her family at her side.

Born in Philadelphia on January 19, 1945 she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Ruth (Miller) Leskowsky.

She was last employed as certified nursing assistant (CNA) at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community.

Margaret was a former member of the former St. George’s Church, Shenandoah. She was a member of the Frackville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #398 and the former Moose Lodge, Shenandoah.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her first husband, John J. Walukiewicz in 1994; two brothers, Thomas and Francis and one sister, Stephanie.

Surviving are her husband, John J. Frantz of sixteen years; one daughter, Jacqueline Walukiewicz of Frackville; one step-son, John D. Frantz of Frackville; one grandson, Cody Reed; one brother, Daniel Leskowsky of Alabama, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

William 'Chopper' Rumbel
, 73, of Frackville, passed away Saturday, January 16th, 2021 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.

Born in Shenandoah, on March 18, 1947, he was a son of the late Bessie (Berresford) and Claude Rumbel.

After high school, Chopper served in the Unites States Army. He was retired, having last worked as a delivery driver for Wargo Coal and Oil, Inc. of McAdoo.

Chopper enjoyed going up the river fishing as well as going out on the lake in his boat. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Rumbel. Chopper lost her in the 1990's, and his devotion to her led him to a 25 plus year journey of helping not only himself, but others experience sobriety.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Keith; and by a brother, Claude 'Red' Rumbel, Jr.

Chopper is survived by a son, William Rumbel; two grandchildren, Ashley and Brittany and two great grandchildren; Ethan and Cameron. He is also survived by two sisters, Wendy Rumbel and Barbara Marnell Miersky, and three brothers, David Rumbel, Robert Rumbel and Paul Rumbel, along with nieces nephews and many friends.

Chopper will be laid to rest alongside his wife following graveside services at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Frackville on Monday, January 25th at 11 AM.

Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the 11 AM graveside service. All Covid-19 protocols for social distancing and wearing of masks will be adhered to.

Michelle R. Garner
, 41, of Pottsville formerly of Tower City, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2020 at the St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem.

Michelle was born in Pottsville, February 10, 1979.

She graduated from the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit.

She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tower City.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Lori Luckenbill Hoy and Joe Hoy, Tower City; her father, John Garner, Tower City; a brother Jason Garner and his wife Tabatha, Tower City; two sisters, Nicole and Megan Hoy, Harrisburg; her grandparents, Ken and Janice Luckenbill, Tower City. Aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc., with Pastor Laura Csellak. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Interstate 81 Northbound Closed in Luzerne County near Hazleton

A portion of Interstate 81 is closed Wednesday morning near Hazleton.

As of 10:00am, Interstate 81 northbound is closed between the Exit 145 (West Hazleton) and Interstate 80 due to a multi-vehicle crash.

The highway is expected to be closed for several hours.

The closure is causing a backlog of traffic that is extending near the Route 924 exit.

Four Injured in Rollover Crash in Pine Grove Township Early Sunday

Four people were injured in a rollover crash near Pine Grove early Sunday morning.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the crash occurred around 2:45am, on Sunday, January 17th, 2021 on Suedberg Road/Route 895, Pine Grove Township.

Troopers say the crash occurred as a Mazda CX3 driven by Brandon Frantz, 21, of Pine Grove was traveling west on Route 895 at a high rate of speed and lost control.

Frantz's vehicle went off the roadway, struck an embankment, becoming airborne through a wooded area, then flipped end over end twice before come to a rest in the front yard of 742 Suedberg Road.

Frantz and three passengers, Richard Newcomer, 18, Savannah Low, 19, both of Pine Grove and Alyssa Cairns, 18, of Minersville were all wearing their seatbelts and all suffered injuries in the crash.

All four were treated at the scene by Pine Grove Community Ambulance.

Frantz will be cited for not driving at a safe speed.


Fire Crews Responding to House Fire in Pine Grove

Emergency personnel are responding to a house fire in Pine Grove.

Just after 2:45pm, Wednesday, emergency personnel were dispatched to 5 Ridge Vista Road, Pine Grove for a possible house fire.

Police were first on-scene and reported heavy smoke coming from the first floor of the home.

A RIT team was also called from Schuylkill Haven.

Butler Township Man Dies in Crash Along Route 924 near Gilberton

A Butler Township man died in a crash along Route 924 near Gilberton on Friday afternoon.

Around 12:30pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to the Maizeville side of the Route 924 bridge over Gilberton for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.

According to Frackville Police Chief Rick Bell, the crash occurred as a white sedan was traveling south on Rt. 924 at a high rate of speed and drove off the roadway, struck an embankment and went over the guard rail, dropping off the side of Rt. 924 approximately 40 to 50 feet to the bottom of the embankment. 

According to Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner, the driver, John Michael Comarnisky, 67, of Butler Township near Fountain Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20pm.

Assisting the Frackville Police Department was: Gilberton Fire Co., Shenandoah Ambulance, Mahanoy City Fire Rescue, Ashland Police Department, Shenandoah Police Department, West Mahanoy Township Police Department, Mahanoy City Police Department, and the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.

The incident is under investigation and any witness is urged to contact the Frackville Police Department at 570-874-0238.

Helen C. Hufnagle
, 92, formerly of Pottsville, died Monday evening at The Jewish Home, Harrisburg.

Born July 3, 1928 in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Caroline (Hochgertel) Smith.

Helen was a member of St. John the Baptist RC Church, Pottsville and the Catholic Women’s Union. She was also a 1946 graduate of Pottsville High School. Helen was employed by Bell Telephone, Pottsville and Alston Card Store in the Fairlane Village Mall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband the late Theodore J. “Ted” Hufnagle; and brothers Donald L. and Robert V. Smith.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Carolyn H. wife of Bruce Daley, Harrisburg; grandchildren, Michael Daley husband of Jacinda, Laura wife of Steven Moses, and Matthew; great grandchildren, Theodore, Timothy, and Thomas; great step grandchildren, Miguel and Gabriela; brother, Vincent Smith husband of Joan; numerous nieces and nephews.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist RC Church, Pottsville Rev. David Loeper, Off. Interment will be held in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Pottsville. Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. John the Baptist RC Church 913 Mahantongo St, Pottsville, PA 17901 in Helen’s name.

Clinton O. "C.O." Timmins
, age 88, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at his residence.

He was born on Monday, October 3, 1932, in Frackville, a son of the late Walter M Timmins and the late Katie A (Kessler) Timmins.

He attended Williamson College of the Trades, Media.

He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and then in the PA National Guard in the 193rd Special Operations Wing Association until his retirement from the service as a Master Sgt.

C.O. was a self employed HVAC contractor and then retired from Mechanicsburg Navy Depot.

He was a member of the Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill.

He was also a member of American Legion Post 177, Newport.

C.O. loved hunting, woodworking, and camping.

His wife, Phyllis E (Stoner) Timmins, passed away on December 16, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, Walter Warren Timmins; and by two sisters, Melva Timmins and Wilda Wilson.

He is survived by three daughters, Denise J Peirce of Harrisburg, Dawn J Timmins of Mechanicsburg, and Deanna J Bell of Etters; a son, Clinton A Timmins and his wife Traci of Sacramento; eight grandchildren, Lynette Lee, Michelle Peirce, Candice Bostdorf, Kyle Peirce, Matthew Gross, Megan Edwards, Melinda Scheib, and Ethan Timmins; ten great grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Evans and her husband Ronald of Trinity, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Private service will be held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with Rev. Dennis Sproull officiating.

Burial will be made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Memorial contributions can be made to Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way #270, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Butler Township Chief of Police Announces Intent to Seek Candidacy for Magisterial District Judge

On Thursday, Butler Township Police Chief Edward Tarantelli announced his candidacy to seek the Republican and Democratic nomination for Magisterial District Judge for District Court 21-2-01 in the upcoming 2021 primary election.
Tarantelli has served as a police officer with the Butler Township Police Department since 1997, with 19 of those years serving as the Chief of Police. 

He was also the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Instructor within the North Schuylkill School District and former Immaculate Heart and Holy Family Catholic Elementary Schools for 10 years.

With more than two decades of law enforcement experience, Tarantelli says he has first-hand experience investigating a wide variety of complaints and crimes ranging from property crimes to homicides and civil disputes. 

Tarantelli says he has been recognized and testified as an Expert Witness in Narcotic Investigations in the Common Pleas Court of Schuylkill County and has worked in conjunction with fellow law enforcement agencies including the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Attorney Generals Office, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) , Secret Service, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Federal Postal Inspectors and the United States Marshals. 

During the course of his career, he has also served other local municipalities as a part time police officer to include Ashland, Frackville, Mahanoy City and Orwigsburg. 

He has been endorsed and is a member of the North Schuylkill Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2 and the Schuylkill County Chief of Police Association.

"I believe law enforcement and courtroom experience are important now more than ever. I would love to extend my knowledge of the law to the greater community through the role of Magisterial District Judge. If elected, I will uphold and promote independence, integrity, and impartiality while performing my duties competently and diligently. I believe experience matters." said Tarantelli.

Tarentelli is a lifelong resident of Butler Township and has been involved in numerous youth and civic organizations for over 20 years. He is currently an Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach for North Schuylkill High School and has coached youth sports within the Ashland Little League, North Schuylkill Elementary Wrestling Program and CYO Basketball. He has served as Vice President of the Spartan Football Boosters for many years. He is also a member of the Ashland Elks, Knights of Columbus, and St Charles Borromeo finance council.

Tarentelli graduated from North Schuylkill High School, Delaware Valley College with a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration and Lackawanna College Act 120 Program.

Ed is married to his wife Anne and they have three children, Michael (wife Evette), Maura, and Dane and a granddaughter, Aria.
