Fish and Boat Commission Opens 2020 PA Trout Season Immediately

In a surprising move, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission opened the 2020 Trout Season statewide on Tuesday.

According to the a press release from the PFBC,

Effective 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), in consultation with the Office of the Governor, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) opened the statewide 2020 trout season.

The decision to open trout season immediately is intended to discourage concentrated gatherings of people that may have occurred on the traditional opening day, to minimize intrastate and interstate travel, and to reduce the threat of illegal poaching in waters that have already been stocked.

This measure allows properly licensed anglers and youth to begin fishing for and harvesting trout.

All regulations, sizes, and creel limits apply.

Anglers and boaters must abide by social distancing guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Governor Tom Wolf’s Stay-at-Home Order regarding COVID19.

“We realize that this announcement is another disruption to tradition, but it is in the best interest of public health and safety,” said Tim Schaeffer, PFBC Executive Director. “We have already seen that anglers and boaters across the Commonwealth are willing to adapt their behavior to include social distancing, and we ask everyone to follow their lead while enjoying outdoor activities during this challenging time. The trout we have been stocking have had time to spread out, and so should you.”

Anglers and boaters are asked to limit travel by fishing close to home, cover their faces with a mask or other cloth covering, keep a distance of at least six feet from others (the length of arm with an outstretched fishing rod is a good guide), only go fishing with members of their families living in the same household, and never share fishing gear with others.

If another angler is in an area you intended to fish, move on to another spot.

Non-resident Pennsylvania fishing license holders should comply with the CDC Travel Advisory urging residents in several states, including New York and New Jersey, to refrain from nonessential domestic travel.

Geisinger Health Plan Waives Out-of-Pocket Costs for Members for COVID-19 Treatment

Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) is waiving all out-of-pocket costs for members receiving in-network, inpatient treatment for COVID-19.
This means if you are a GHP member hospitalized following a positive test, you will not have any deductibles, co-pays or co-insurance for COVID-19 treatment during your inpatient stay.

GHP had previously decided to waive member cost-sharing for COVID-19 testing. These cost waivers apply to all members until further notice. Self-insured plans have the option to opt-out.

“As Geisinger continues to monitor and respond to the novel coronavirus pandemic, we want our health plan members to know that cost will not be a barrier to receiving inpatient care when they need it most,” said Dr. John Bulger, GHP chief medical officer.

For outpatient visits, copays and other cost-sharing may apply based on a member’s specific benefits. For example, if a member sees his or her primary care physician or visits the ER for suspicion of COVID-19, he or she may still need to pay a fee for that visit or other services.

In addition to waiving out-of-pocket costs for COVID-19 testing and treatment, GHP has also made the following changes to further assist members at this time:

• Prescription refills: GHP is allowing early refills for 30- or 90-day prescriptions at retail pharmacies. Members are encouraged to ask about and use home delivery when available for their prescriptions. GHP is also allowing early refills on 90-day prescriptions from our mail order pharmacy, which delivers directly to the member’s home at no extra cost. Early refills are available for controlled substances but will not apply for prescriptions that contain opioids outside of certain conditions.

• Prior authorization: Prior authorization will not be a barrier for any COVID-19 related testing or treatment.

• Telehealth: All GHP members can use Teladoc telehealth services at no cost through June 15. Before using this service, members should call their primary care doctor.

• Behavioral health: GHP’s behavioral health providers also increased their options for telehealth services. To learn more about the resources and services available, call 888-839-7972 to speak with GHP’s Care Connector team.

Before visiting a doctor’s office, convenient care clinic or emergency department, members should call their primary care doctor’s office or Geisinger’s novel coronavirus hotline at 570-284-3657. For general questions and information about COVID-19, you can visit geisinger.org/coronavirus.

Police say a white male wearing a tan jacket with a hood, blue jeans (possibly cuffed at the bottom), brown boots with a light colored sole, and a black face mask entered the convenience store and brandished a black pistol to the store clerk and demanded money from the cash register.

After the clerk gave the suspect the cash, he fled the scene on foot along with the cash drawer.

The suspect was last seen walking north through the parking lot towards Main Street.

Surveillance footage showed the male to walk with his right foot canted inward or pigeon toed.

He was also described as being thing built and stood approximately 6'00 to 6'04" tall.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the incident should contact the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven at (570) 754-4600.

Pottsville Physical Therapy Site Pitches In To Sew Face Masks for Good Shepherd Patients, Staff

In the face of tight supplies throughout the world, health-care organizations are requesting donations of homemade face masks to supplement their own personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies.

Some health-care organizations — including Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network in Allentown — are taking it a step further by assembling in-house teams to sew their own masks.

Despite being 50 miles away, the team from Pottsville Area Physical Therapy, A Service of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital, wanted to help the broader mask-making efforts at Good Shepherd’s Allentown campus however they could.

So, the Pottsville team got to work sewing at their site on Woodglen Road, temporarily transforming therapy tables into sewing tables.

“It has been cathartic in some ways, really,” says Carolyn Dunkelberger, PT, DPT, Pottsville site manager. “We all just want to do our part to keep our patients, staff and community safe at a time where all feel somewhat helpless. This has been an empowering and inspiring project knowing we can make a difference for the folks that will wear the masks we have produced.”

Stephanie Viduzinski, PTA, has led the Pottsville team’s efforts. Viduzinski showed how to measure and cut fabric to avoid waste, and provided instructions for how to sew the masks. Regional Manager Charlie Eberling, PT, DPT, TPI, who also is Good Shepherd's Fogelsville site manager, has gathered mask-making supplies from various shops near his home in Lancaster, PA, and delivered them to the Pottsville team.

Pottsville’s goal is to produce 100 masks, adding to the 1,000 masks sewn by fellow Good Shepherd Associates in Allentown. The handmade masks will extend Good Shepherd’s supply of N95 masks and other PPE.

“It is beautiful how our team came together, took on a task that is brand new and found comfort in the time we spent together,” says Dunkelberger.
