Schuylkill Country Sheriff Joseph Groody along with nine other county sheriffs were also in attendance, to pay their respect.
The service was opened by his good friend, President of the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce, and former Schuylkill County Commissioner, Bob Carl, who spoke on Staudenmeier's calm nature.
"Frank was a man of the people and a calming force. He was the kind of guy that would find the rainbow out of every storm" said Carl.
Carl also talked about Staudenmeier's contributions to the county while he was chairman of the Schuylkill County Economic Development Corporation.
"In Frank's two year term as chairman, he was responsible for the starting projects for companies that are in the Highridge Business Park today, as well as project's for Yuengling, Air Products, and others."
Carl also talked about Frank's love for his family and his commitment to youth sports.
"Family was everything to Frank. No priority was more important to him". Carl said. "Frank was a born leader and people followed him. When it came to youth sports, he showed them how to play the right way."
Lastly, one of Frank's favorite quotes to say was "It's a great day in Schuylkill County", Carl ended his eulogy with an amendment to Frank's quote.
"It is a greater day in Schuylkill County because of Frank Staudenmeier"
Second to eulogize Frank was his brother John.
John spoke about growing up with his brother Frank only half a block from the church where the mass was taking place.
"We grew up playing in the lot near St. Mauritius Church and sliding down the coal banks. He was a simple man and loved this area"
"He was much like our dad, friendly, gentle, and kind hearted, and didn't just sit back and watch, he leaned in and got stuff done" added John.
John, who now lives in New Jersey, spoke about Frank just wanted to sit with a beer, a cigar, and watching the world go by.
After the mass, pallbearers carried Staudenmeier's casket out of the church, while Schuylkill County Sheriff's lined the front steps and saluted.
A procession to the cemetery was lead by the Schuylkill County Sheriff's, east on Walnut Street in Ashland to Hoffman Boulevard, then west on Centre Street.
At the Washington Fire Company, along Centre Street, over thirty fire trucks and EMS from around Schuylkill County lined the streets with over one hundred volunteer firefighters and EMT's who stood along side their respected apparatus and gave one final salute, as Staudenmeier's hearse passed through an archway with an American Flag displayed by Ashland's past ladder truck, the 1959/93 American Lafrance 85', also known as "Brutus" and the Washington Fire Company's current ladder truck.
Fire departments that took part in the salute included the Mahantango Fire Co. (Pitman), Pine Grove Hose Hook, and Ladder, Goodwill Fire Company (Frackville), American Hose Co (Mahanoy Plane), Sheppton Oneida Fire, Citizens Fire Co. (Gordon), Rescue Hook and Ladder (Saint Clair), Ringtown Valley Fire, Clover Fire Co. (Heckscherville), Defender Fire Co. Both individuals are from Montgomery County, have mild symptoms, are in isolation at home and were exposed to an area of the United States where COVID-19 is present.
“These new cases bring our total of presumptive positive cases to four in Pennsylvania,” Gov. Wolf said. “Even with these new cases, I want to reassure Pennsylvanians that the commonwealth is prepared and responding appropriately and swiftly so that information and resources are available.
“I have been coordinating with legislative leaders from both parties, and we have agreed to immediately work toward a package that would provide resources to ensure we are aggressively mitigating the spread of COVID-19."

“I have been coordinating with legislative leaders from both parties, and we have agreed to immediately work toward a package that would provide resources to ensure we are aggressively mitigating the spread of COVID-19."
Resources will help mitigate the spread and strengthen state and local efforts by:
- Supporting county and municipal health departments;
- Securing necessary equipment and personnel;
- Securing personal protective equipment (PPE);
- Disseminating public health messaging; and
- Supporting care for seniors, the most at-risk population.
On Friday, the Wolf administration announced the first two presumptive positives – one adult in Delaware County and one in Wayne County. Both have mild symptoms and are in isolation at home.
To date, there are more than 105,000 cases worldwide, including more than 3,500 deaths. There are 401 cases in the United States and 17 deaths to date in the United States. The CDC expects cases to continue to be confirmed in the upcoming days and weeks but wants everyone to take action to help prevent the spread of the virus. CDC also said due to the rapidly changing nature of the spread of COVID-19 around the world, it is important for families to be prepared.
The Wolf Administration Preparedness Actions
The World Health Organization first announced the coronavirus outbreak in late January and the Pennsylvania Department of Health has had its Emergency Operations Center set up since February 1. The center allows for a collaborative, concentrated state response, including:
- Activated of the Department of Health’s Emergency Operations Center to allow for enhanced response coordination;
- Begun testing for COVID-19 at the state laboratory;
- Maintained communication and outreach with federal, state and local partners;
- Provided symptom monitoring for residents returning from areas impacted by coronavirus;
- Provided health care providers, businesses and education providers with information;
- Reviewed and adapted current pandemic flu plans to prepare for spread of COVID-19;
- Increased testing capacity to test 20 to 25 individuals daily;
- Purchased equipment to increase testing capacity to 125 to 150 individuals beginning the week of March 9.
- Partially activated the Commonwealth Response Coordination Center at PEMA.
Symptoms of the COVID-19 can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. The symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure. Reported illnesses have ranged from people with little to no symptoms to people being severely ill and dying. Individuals most at risk for severe symptoms include elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.
Pennsylvanians are reminded to:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol- based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Cover any coughs or sneezes with your elbow, not your hands.
- Clean surfaces frequently, such as countertops, light switches, cell phones and other frequently touched areas.
- Contain if you are sick, you should stay home until you are feeling better.

Construction of Aldi's Begins near Saint Clair
Construction of a new Aldi's Store near Saint Clair in East Norwegian Township began last week.
In 2019, we learned through the Republican Herald that a project was in the works and required approvals before work could begin.
Last week, equipment arrived, fences went up, and work began with a sign that says "Coming Soon!" in the lot next to Empire Beauty School across Route 61 from the Fairlane Village Mall.
Calls in an attempt to find out opening dates and a construction timeline were not returned.
Nothing official has been announced, but rumors are a Jersey's Mike Subs is also being built next to the Aldi's construction lot where the former AAMCO garage was located.
A few weeks ago, it had listed the location's address on the company's web site, but the listing has since been removed.
Attempts to reach Jersey's Mikes for comment were not returned.

The first award was given to William McFadden, of the Washington Fire Company, for his 57 years of active continuous membership to the Washington Fire Company.

The second award, the Firefighter of the Year Award, was given to Philip Groody Jr. of the American Hose Company. Groody also received award from the State VFW Delegration.
