The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Early Sunday.

WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TO 10 AM EST SUNDAY...

* WHERE...Montour, Northumberland, Columbia, Dauphin, Schuylkill, Lebanon, Adams, York and Lancaster Counties.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects.  Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Police Chase near Pine Grove Ends in Pond

A police chase near Pine Grove late Friday ended when the vehicle being chased ended up in a pond.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, around 11:00pm, Friday, a State Trooper attempted to pull over Tyler Nornhold, 22,  for a traffic violation on Sweet Arrow Lake Road.  Instead of stopping, Nornhold led police in a 5 mile chase that ended up he drove his vehicle into a pond, submerging the vehicle.

Nornhold was able to get out of the vehicle and troopers took him into custody.

Nornhold was already wanted for fleeing police during a chase on January 2nd, 2020 in the borough of Tremont.

For the January 2nd incident, Nornhold was charged with fleeing and eluding police, recklessly endangering another person, driving without a license, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and various traffic violations.

Nornhold was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $10,000 straight cash bail for the January 2nd incident.  Additional charges will be filed.

Car Used in Police Pursuit Late Friday Pulled from Pond Near Pine Grove

On Saturday afternoon, State Police and Pine Grove towing pulled the vehicle that was used during a police pursuit late Friday and ended up in a pond near Pine Grove.

A small dock and a swing were also reportedly destroyed by the vehicle as it entered the pond.

Schuylkill County Obituaries for 01/11/2020

Andrew Pollog, 89, of Pottsville, passed away on Friday at Luther Ridge.

Born in Saint Clair on July 29, 1930, he was a son of the late John and Mary Pollog. He was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School. He worked as a machinist for Exxon, Marlin until his retirement in 1994. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served as an Aircraft Mechanic with the 122nd Bombardment Squadron in Korea.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Minersville. He was also a member of the Minersville American Legion.

He was preceded in death by six siblings, including his oldest sister, Helen Havlick, who raised them after their parents died at a young age.

Andrew is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Anna Hutsko; two sons, Michael Pollog, San Antonio, Texas, and Thomas Pollog (spouse, Mingzhu), Arlington, Virginia; three grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, and Matthew Pollog. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy and Betty Pollog, New York; nieces and nephews.

The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville, on Wednesday from 7:00 A.M. Parastas will be at 10:00 A.M., after which visitation will end. Requiem Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in St. Nicholas Church, 415 Front Street, Minersville. Interment with military honors will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Branch Township. The family prefers contributions to St. Nicholas Church.

Fire Crews Respond to House Fire in Mahanoy City Sunday Morning

On Sunday morning, fire crews responded to a house fire in Mahanoy City.


Around 8:00am, emergency personnel were dispatched North B Street, in Mahanoy City for a house fire.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire not long after arrival and began overhaul.

As of 8:45am, crews were still at the scene.

Police Investigating Damage to Property in Zion Grove

The State Police at Frackville is currently investigating a case of criminal mischief at a home in North Union Township.


According to police, on January 9th, 2020, someone drove onto the front lawn of a home on Hay Stack Drive, Zion Grove, damaged the property and left the scene.

Brandon Trevor Rose 33 years of age passed away on January 9, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pennsylvania.

Born in Wiesbaden Hessen Germany the son of Roger D. and Mary Martha (Goudy) Rose of Arizona. Brandon is also survived by siblings, Amanda Handy, Jennifer Heinzerling and Cassandra Spears.

Brandon served honorably in the United States Army having been deployed to Iraq for 18 months. A graduate of Evergreen State College of Olympia Washington, Brandon studied world economics and political journalism. Brandon worked winters at Telluride Ski Resort in Colorado, and traveled the country the remaining part of the year.

It is with great sadness that the family of John R. Carter, husband, father, pap and brother, announce his passing on January 11, 2020 at St. Luke's Bethlehem at the age of 67 years.

John was a big presence, and to many would have been perceived as intimidating; however, to the contrary. John, was a kind, gentle man who was devoted to his family and many friends.

John and his beloved wife of 34 years, Cheryl A. " Sherry" (Smellowsky) Carter reside on Pine Street in Tamaqua. He is also survived by; sons, James Carter of Reading, Joshua M. Carter and his wife Mary of Tamaqua; grand daughters, Evelyn "Evey", and Grace Carter who he adored; step-brother, Brian Cassell and his wife Angela of Tamaqua. John had a huge extended family that view him as the patriarch.

Born in Coaldale the son of the late Robert and Joan (Henry) Carter - Cassell. John was also predeceased by his step-father Calvin Cassell.

A graduate of Tamaqua High School, John earned his mechanical engineering degree from Lafayette College and retired from Mallinckrodt Baker, now operating as Avantor of Philipsburg, New Jersey after 32 years of service. John was a charter member and past District Deputy of Harmony Lodge #86 Independent Order of Odd Fellows Tamaqua and a member of Scott Encampment #132. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons #238 Tamaqua and many masonic affiliations.

A patient and talented man, John enjoyed woodworking, and carving. He was an outdoors man who like to ride his Harley with Sherry and was an ardent fly fisherman, tying his own fly's. Time spent at his Lake House with his family was when John was in his true element, telling stories, and playing games and figures with his grand daughters. John looked forward to trips to Knobel's for it was another way to spoil his girl's.

Kathryn I. Long, 91, of Lebanon formerly of Tower City, passed away Saturday afternoon at the Spang Crest Nursing Home, Lebanon.

Born in Orwin, April 22, 1928, a daughter of late Harry and Lottie Kohr Heberling.

Kathryn was a 1946 graduate of Porter Township High School.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Reinerton.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, William L. Long; several nieces and nephews, including Jay and Grace Heberling, Lebanon; Amanda Wenrich and Jason Heberling whom Bill and Kathryn considered grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 17th at 11:00 am from St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Beissel. Following the services a luncheon and fellowship will follow. Private burial will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1931 Wiconisco Street, Tower City, PA 17980. Woman Facing Charges After Child Found Naked Outside in the Cold

A woman is facing charges after a child was found outside in the cold naked early Monday.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, just after 12:30am, a 4 year old boy was found outside on Valley Street in New Philadelphia.  The boy was found naked and crying by a neighbor in the 31 degree temperatures.

Police say the 4 year old was being babysat by a 60 year old woman (who was not identified).   While the woman babysat the victim, she began consuming "four loco" and became intoxicated and fell asleep.

The woman will now face child endangerment charges before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko.

Four Facing Drug Charges After Traffic Stop in East Union Township

Four people are facing drug charges after a traffic stop in East Union Township on Sunday.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville on Sunday, January 12, 2020, around 11:30pm, a traffic stop was conducted on Chapel Road/Centre Street, East Union Township, on a vehicle driven by William Bennett, 21, of Hazleton.

Police say Bennett was found to be impaired and was taken into police custody for Driving Under the Influence.

Three passengers in the vehicle, Alexis Kantener, 20, Jeremy Lescowitch, 29, and Christian Kantner, 18, all of Hazle Township were found to be in possession of controlled substances.

The Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville will be charging all the occupants of the vehicle with drug possession.

Man Faces Drug Charges After Traffic Stop in Saint Clair

The Saint Clair Police Department has charged a Pottsville man after a traffic stop on Saturday.


According to Chief William Dempsey, on Saturday, January 11, 2020, officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the area of Cherry and Wade Road.  The driver, Brandon Moyer, 31, of Pottsville, failed to stop and drove into a private yard on Memorial Avenue.

Once stopped, Moyer refused to exit the vehicle.  Officers smashed and window in attempt to remove Moyer but he continued to fight with police.

An officer deployed his taser to control Moyer and was able to take him into custody.

Moyer was found to be in possession of suboxone, klonopin, and methamphetamine.

Moyer was charged with fleeing or eluding police, resisting arrest, 3 counts of possession with a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Moyer was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Ferrier via video conference and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison and later release after posting $10,000 straight cash bail.


Man Flown After ATV Crash in Middleport on Sunday

A man was flown for his injuries suffered in an ATV crash on Sunday.


The crash reportedly happened around 3:00pm near the intersection of Kaska Street and North Street in Middleport.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to a local baseball field where he was flown to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest with unknown injuries.

Police Investigating Break-In at Saint Clair Football Stadium

Saint Clair Police are investigating a break-in at the football stadium located at East Franklin and North Nicholas Streets in the borough.


Police say on Sunday, January 12, 2020, officers were notified of a recent break-in at the football field's storage building.

School officials reported to police that an entry door was found open.

No items were reported missing.

Arrest Warrant Issued for Man Who Allegedly Broke into Home in Porter Township

Charges have been filed and an arrest warrant has been issued for a man after he allegedly broke into a home in Porter Township.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, on Saturday, January 11th, 2020, around 1:15 am, Richard Paulus, 31, of Williamstown, reportedly kicked in the front door of a home on East Grande Avenue in Porter Township.

Police say the victim told police that Paulus, kicked in the door, and destroyed approximately $4,000 worth of various items throughout the house.

Before police arrived, Paulus fled the scene in a green Subaru Impreza being the license plate KWJ-0282.

Police were unable to locate Paulus.

Charges were filed through Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi's office and an arrest warrant has been issued.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Paulus are asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven at (570) 593-2000.

Timothy A. Blihar, 45 of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 12, 2020, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania.

Born Thursday, February 7, 1974 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Robert Blihar and Cindy (Smith) Blihar of Tamaqua. Tim is also survived by; son, Aaron Neff, maternal grandmother, Hazel Smith; aunt Renee Breiner. He was predeceased by his brother, Jason R. Blihar on February 19, 2017.

A graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Tim had worked in the Grocery business. Tim enjoyed lifting weights and singing karaoke. He will be missed by all.

Donald W. “Sluggo” Andrews, 88 of Pottsville passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born May 29, 1931 in Phoenix Park, he was the son of the late William C. and Margaret B. (Gwyther) Andrews.

He was a 1949 graduate of the former Branch Township High School. After high school he worked briefly at ALCOA before enlisting in the United States Navy. From 1951-1955 he served his country aboard the USS Salem as a 3rd Class gunner’s mate.

Donald was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville. He was also a member of Central Pennsylvania Teamsters Local No. 429, Humane Fire Co. No. 1.

In 1952, he married the love of his life, Joan Felsburg Andrews, who preceded him in death in 2017.

Don worked as a truck driver for several companies including, Schuylkill Products, Felty Brick, and his last employer, Liberty Oil Co. until his retirement in 1994.

During Retirement, he volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels with his good buddy Charles “Chow” Heffner and working at the Senior Center in Pottsville. During the summer, he enjoyed going to the JFK pool. He also enjoyed watching old westerns on TV, cross word search puzzles, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by infant daughter, Debra Sue Andrews; brother, Russell Andrews; sister, Geraldine M. “Geri” Miller; and sister-in-law, Lois Walsh.

He is survived by daughter, Wendy Kline, Bethlehem; son, Donald W. Andrews, Jr husband of Donna, Pottsville; grandchildren, Alison Piripavel, Adam Kline, Jill Kline, Lindsay Andrews; great-grandchildren, Matison and Thomas Piripavel, Nathan Kline, and Londyn Platts; son-in-law, Kenneth Kline Jr.; cousin, Shirley Truxelle.

Funeral Services will be held 11AM on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville with Pastor Chris Rothharpt officiating. Family and friends may call from 9AM until the time of the service. Interment with military honor will follow in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributes be made to National Alzheimer’s Association 225 North Michigan Ave. Fl. 17 Chicago IL 60601.
