On September 18 and 25, the Wolf Administration will provide free naloxone at 95 locations across the state to any Pennsylvanian who wants it as part of the administration’s ongoing effort to reduce the number of opioid overdoses and get residents into treatment. One of those locations being in Schuylkill County

Distributions will primarily take place at state health centers and county/municipal health departments on Wednesday, September 18, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, September 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as supplies last.

In Schuylkill County, the distribution will take place at the Schuylkill Health Center located at 1 Norwegian Plaza in Suite 103, in Pottsville.

In the Surrounding Counties:
-Berks County State Health Center – 625 Cherry St., Room 401, Reading, PA 19602
-Carbon County State Health Center – 281 N. 12th St., Suite A, Lehighton, PA 18235
-Columbia County State Health Center – 327 Columbia Blvd., Suite 2, Bloomsburg, PA 17815
-Lebanon County State Health Center – 9 N. 9th St., Lebanon, PA 17046
-Luzerne County State Health Center – 665 Carey Ave., Suite 2, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18706
-Northumberland County State Health Center – 247 Pennsylvania Ave., Sunbury, PA 17801

For a list of all of Pennsylvania:
https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/Documents/Opioids/Pennsylvania%20Naloxone%20Distribution%20Locations%20-%20September%202019.pdf

“The life-saving medication naloxone is essential for every resident to have on hand, particularly if you have a loved one suffering from opioid-use disorder,” Governor Tom Wolf said. “We want to ensure that all Pennsylvanians have the proper tools to help fight this opioid crisis and through this opportunity for free naloxone, we are saving lives and getting those who need it most into treatment. Keeping naloxone in your home, work or even in your car can make the difference between someone getting into treatment or dying from this disease.”

Naloxone is a medication that does not harm the individual it is administered to, and is used to reverse an overdose caused by an opioid by blocking the effects of opioids on the brain. Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine issued a standing order prescription to any Pennsylvanian to get naloxone at a pharmacy for anyone who may need it.

“Naloxone has one function: to reverse the effects of opioids on the brain and respiratory system to save someone’s life,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “It is impossible to get someone in to treatment who is dead. In 2018, more than 4,400 people died from a drug overdose. Every Pennsylvanian has a role to play as a potential first responder and can save a life by having naloxone on hand and using it if they come across someone who has overdosed.”

Since November 2014, more than 25,000 people have been revived with naloxone by police officers and EMS providers in Pennsylvania. A standing order, updated in July of 2019, allows firefighters and police officers to administer naloxone as part of their treatment of someone who has overdosed. First responders have access to naloxone for free through funding set aside in the 2019-2020 budget by Governor Wolf and the General Assembly.

“We are at a critical crossroads in combatting the opioid epidemic in Pennsylvania,” said Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs Secretary Jen Smith. “We have a choice to accept overdoses and the disease of addiction as the new normal or to fight back. I choose to fight. We simply cannot get an individual the help they desperately need following an overdose if they are dead. I hope that all Pennsylvanians use the naloxone distribution days to proactively take action to save our loved ones.”

In addition to being able to get naloxone for free on September 18 and 25, it is carried at most pharmacies across the state year-round. Naloxone is available to many with public and private insurance at pharmacies either for free or at a low cost.

Attorney General Shapiro Joins Other AG's with Investigation into Google's Business Practices

Attorney General Josh Shapiro and 49 other Attorneys General today announced the launch of an investigation into tech giant Google’s business practices in accordance with state and federal laws. The bipartisan coalition will investigate Google’s overarching control of online advertising markets and search traffic that may have led to anticompetitive behavior that harms consumers.

“Pennsylvanians deserve access to an internet where they can watch, read, and share freely,” said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. “Google’s impact on the lives of everyday Americans and the economy is pervasive—it is the dominant player in online advertising and it has the power to control information and commerce around the world. As such, Google has a responsibility to consumers to ensure that the internet remains free and fair. I’m proud to stand with my colleague Attorneys General today to announce that we are holding Google accountable for that responsibility and launching an investigation into whether their business practices have undermined free market competition and hurt consumers.”

Throughout the investigation, legal experts from each state will work in cooperation with federal authorities to assess competitive conditions for online services and ensure that Americans have access to free digital markets.

The investigation by the Attorneys General will be the first of its kind to address fully the source of Google’s sustained market power and the ability to engage in serial and repeated business practices with the intention to protect and maintain that power. Prior investigations uncovered violations—such as the advertising of illegal drugs in the United States—and resulted in the European Commission bringing three antitrust actions against Google.

Knoebels Named Home of "Best ofs" in the Amusement Park Industry

The #1 wooden roller coaster, the best food, and a legendary carousel can all be experienced at a Pennsylvania amusement park. Knoebels Amusement Resort is home to these three distinctions, and other “best-ofs” in the industry.
During an event on Saturday at Silverwood Theme Park, Idaho, Amusement Today announced the 2019 Golden Ticket Award winners. The awards are calculated from an international poll. The survey is sent to a database of experienced and well-traveled amusement park fans around the world asking them to rate the “Best of the Best” in 22 categories.

For the second consecutive year, Knoebels’ Phoenix was named the #1 wooden roller coaster in the world. Phoenix is one of only two wooden coasters that have made the top ten each year for 22 years.

“When Phoenix was named best wooden roller coaster for the first time in 2018, we were thrilled. Earning this distinction two years in a row is an honor for which we feel appreciation beyond words,” said Richard “Dick” Knoebel, Knoebels’ President. “This is a testament to our team’s dedication to maintaining this classic coaster. Even after Phoenix was named the best, they knew their efforts had to continue to ensure it can continue providing a great ride experience for generations to come.”

Phoenix originally opened in 1948 as the Rocket at Playland Park in San Antonio, Texas. At that time, it was touted as the largest wooden coaster in the world. When the park closed in 1980, it was in danger of never thrilling guests again. Knoebels was hoping to add a wooden roller coaster, so the idea came to disassemble, move, and reassemble the coaster in the Pennsylvania park. This raised some eyebrows, but it happened. Phoenix opened to the public in June of 1985 and has been a favorite since.

While this year was only the second year Phoenix captured the #1 spot, there’s a 2019 award Knoebels has secured 17 times in 20 years: Best food.

According to Knoebels’ Public Relations Director, Stacy Ososkie, guests often mention appreciation for the variety and affordability of Knoebels food.

“We have more than 30 food locations for guests to choose from, and our food managers are always providing new reasons to come back,” said Ososkie. “Some visitors make special trips to the park just to enjoy the food.”

An award category in which Knoebels has always made a strong showing was recognized with a Golden Ticket “legend” award. The 105-year-old Grand Carousel, purchased by the park in 1941, has gone undefeated in the now-retired category of “best carousel.”

"Our Grand Carousel will always be the "Heart and Soul" of Knoebels,” said Leanna Knoebel Muscato. “Located near the very center, as the park has grown up around her, she holds many memories for our guests. When a family comes to visit, they all can ride together. Some will choose to reach for the rings, and others are happy riding a jumper horse, while grandparents may choose a relaxing chariot ride, all to the tunes of the antique band organs."

In addition to first place awards, Knoebels was a finalist in other categories:

· #3 Best Halloween Event
· #5 Best Dark Ride for its Haunted Mansion
· #33 and #45 in Top 50 Wooden Roller Coasters for Flying Turns and Twister, respectively

According to Ashland Police Chief Gerard Daley, the driver of a tractor trailer, Tarren Robinson, of South Carolina, told police that he was travelling down the hill from Centralia toward Ashland on Memorial Boulevard when he allegedly lost his brakes.

As the tractor trailer approached the intersection, Robinson attempted to turn left rolling the truck and trailer hauling a forklift onto it's right side crashing into construction site fencing in the 2100 unit block.

When police arrived at the scene, Robinson had already crawled out of the vehicle and said he was not injured.  But while talking to police, Robinson collapsed and said he was in severe pain and was transported to Geisinger in Danville via Ashland EMS.

No other injuries were reported.

PennDOT was contacted due to the truck causing large gashes in the roadway and a Pennsylvania State Police Motor Carrier Unit was contacted to investigate the truck and trailer.

Responding to the scene were the members of the Washington Fire Co., American Hose Co., Ashland EMS, and A&F Towing.
