Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) has appointed Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Dauphin) to serve as one of five members on the Public Pension Management and Asset Investment Review Commission, which was established as part of Pennsylvania’s public pension reform measure under Act 5 of 2017.

The commission is tasked with making recommendations regarding investment performance and strategies. Specifically, the group has been assigned to recommend benchmark investment fees paid by the SERS and PSERS – the state’s two pension systems – to achieve the boards’ anticipated annual rates of return and to develop recommendations to reduce expenditures to generate cash flow savings of $3.0 billion over 30 years.

“Due to my qualifications, I have the opportunity to serve on this commission to help save Pennsylvania taxpayers billions of dollars over the coming years by lowering investment fees,” Tobash explained. “Over the last several years, I have worked to reform our state’s public pension systems to ensure current employees and retirees receive the benefits they have earned and been promised. Additionally, I have worked to create savings from within our systems, and this commission will be able to add to those savings.”

Members will submit findings and recommendations to the General Assembly and the governor within six months of their first organizational meeting. The commission will expire within 60 days of submitting the required report.

The commission is comprised of five members appointed by the governor, the president pro tem of the Senate, the minority leader of the Senate, the speaker of the House and the Minority leader of the House. Daughtry to Play Penn's Peak in March

Penn's Peak announced Tuesday morning that Daughtry will be coming to Jim Thorpe in March of 2018.

As the frontman for the band bearing his name, Daughtry has become one of the most visible and consistent rock & roll torchbearers of the 21st Century. Since rising to prominence on the fifth season of American Idol, he has released four albums, all of which reached the Billboard Top Ten and have combined sales over 8 million copies in the U.S.

Daughtry and his band have been performing together for over a decade. “Like anything with a ten year relationship, you know more about each other than you do most of your family,” says Chris Daughtry. “It’s a love-hate thing—you get sick of being around them, but after two weeks at home you’re ready to get back out on the road and do it again. The fan base really keeps us alive. That’s the key ingredient to keeping a band together—that’s the gasoline, and without it you can’t run.”

Ten years after launching with a massive splash, Chris Daughtry claims that he and the band have grown the most on stage, and that it’s altered his whole sense of his work. “When we first came out, I’d only known what I’d seen,” he says. “I didn’t know how to be vulnerable, with no pretense. Now it’s walk onstage and, especially in our acoustic shows, just be flat-out honest and open. It’s really helped me realize that’s actually what fans want—they want 100 percent honesty and feeling like they got to know you better.”

Tickets on sale Friday, December 15th at 10:00 AM at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Penn’s Peak Box Office and Roadies Restaurant and Bar. Penn’s Peak Box Office and Roadies Restaurant ticket sales are walk-up only, no phone orders.

Argall and Tobash Announce Flood Control Grants

$

0
On Wednesday, Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks) and Representative Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Dauphin) announced two Department of Environmental Protection Growing Greener grants today that will support flood control in the Swatara Creek Watershed in Tremont Township and Pine Grove Borough.
The Schuylkill County Conservation District will be awarded $230,000 to begin phase 1 of the Good Spring Creek Floodplain restoration project and $2,991,000 for a flood remediation project that will help the Borough of Pine Grove. The Pine Grove project will supplement the $2,000,000 announced recently from the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Disaster Recovery program.

“The Swatara Floodplain Restoration project is listed as a priority by the Upper Swatara Flood Recovery workgroup to mitigate high water events in the watershed. The project will create floodplains to reduce flooding and the impact of high water events enabling our community to be more sustainable. Since the 2011 floods the workgroup, consisting of members from all the communities located within the watershed, have been working to mitigate future high water events. The workgroup is excited to see this project moving one step closer to reality as we continue to work on this project and other priority sites, stated Wayne Lehman, Schuylkill Conservation District County Natural Resource Specialist and Bill Reichert, Watershed Maintenance Technician/Flood Recovery Manager.

“As a co-sponsor of the original Growing Greener grant program, I am pleased to see the efforts of the Swatara Creek Watershed groups be recognized for their planning efforts to reduce future flooding in the region through the creation of a natural floodplain on undeveloped lands. These projects will keep a major employer in the community by slowing the flow of the Swatara Creek, while reducing the stress of residents every time a storm rolls through region. These projects are exactly the kinds of projects I envisioned when initially supporting the Growing Greener funding.”

“This grant is an example of how communities, individuals and stakeholders can work together to achieve positive results,” Tobash said. “After the flooding in 2011, coordinated efforts and hard work led to obtaining the resources to get these projects completed. I am glad we were able to work together to support the citizens and businesses in the entire Pine Grove area.”
