A man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after allegedly pointing a laser pointer at a medical helicopter.

According to Pottsville Police, on 08/15/17 at approx. 9:15pm, their department was notified by a MedEvac 7 pilot that the helicopter he had been operating had been lasered with a green laser light while they were passing over the city en-route to the Lawton’s Hill helipad.

Police say this is the second time recently that this type of incident had occurred in the area.

Pottsville Police began an investigation and assisted MedEvac 7 with identifying the origination area of the laser, which was found to be in the area of the 500 block of West Arch Street on this date.

As officers began to search the area they observed a male flee the area on foot heading southeast. The male was last seen in the area of the 300 block of W. Norwegian Street before officers lost visual contact with him.

Officers interviewed several people during the initial investigation and gained evidence to suggest the identity of the suspect.

As the result of an investigation conducted by Pottsville Bureau of Police along with the Criminal Investigation Division, Ptlm. Bryce Lewis filed a criminal complaint charging Timothy Michael Ebert, 23, Pottsville with Risking a Catastrophe, Reckless Endangerment, and Possessing Instruments of a Crime for being the suspect in the incident.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Ebert and on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at approximately 7:30pm, police received information that Ebert was at 511 W. Arch Street at which time officers took Ebert into custody without incident pursuant to this arrest warrant as well as for another outstanding Domestic violence arrest warrant.

Ebert was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James Reiley who set bail at $50,000.00 cash for the laser incident and $25,000.00 cash for the Simple Assault/Domestic Violence incident.

Following arraignment, Ebert was remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison.

Schuylkill County Natives Affected by Hurricane Irma

Schuylkill County natives, now leaving in Florida, are preparing as Hurricane Irma approaches.

By Skook News Editor Jay Reed

Hurricane Irma, now a Category 4 storm, reached startling levels when it measured over 185mph winds and was labeled a Category 5 storm.  It had earned the right to be called the strongest hurricane ever measured.

The storm has since weakened a little but has set it's sights on Florida.  The sunshine state is expected to take the worst of the dangerous storm starting early Sunday.

While the forecast is unclear for Pennsylvania and Schuylkill County regarding the storm, there are natives from Schuylkill County that are living in Florida that are affected.

Skook News has been in contact with dozens of Schuylkill County natives ranging from those that are staying, to those that have evacuated to neighboring states, and even a few that are back here in Schuylkill County.

Others we've spoken to have family and friends that are staying behind.

They've all said the same thing that National News is reporting.  Gas has been hard to find and traffic has been horrible from everyone who is evacuating.

Some are scared and worried while others have been through Hurricanes before and feel confident they will be alright.

Those in southern Florida have already left due to the evacuations ordered but some are waiting to leave until they are told to do so.

Sarah Devine, of South Tampa, a native of Mahanoy City, travelled to north Florida to ride out the storm with her daughter.

Susan Thrift, of St. Augustine, a native of Tamaqua, has lived in Florida since 1981, been through numerous storms and is riding out the storm.

We will be keeping in touch with these County natives and others throughout the storm and keep  you updated on what they are experiencing.

Continue to follow Skook News throughout the weekend for those updates.

Keep everyone affected by the storm in your prayers.

For other weather updates, be sure to follow a local trustworthy weather source that has been tracking the storm all week.

On Thursday evening, attendees got a close up look at some amazing birds during the "Eagle Ambassadors" program at Sweet Arrow Lake Park.

Story and Photos by Jimmie Lu Smallwood

On Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., Carbon County Environmental Education Center presented a program at the Large Pavilion of Sweet Arrow Lake County Park featuring two species of live Eagles.

More then 60 people of all ages were in attendance at the event.

“Rennie” their resident Bald Eagle and “Miss Charles” a Golden Eagle are birds that have been rehabilitated at the center after injuries.

Neither bird can return to the wild, so under permit of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Pennsylvania Game Commission, they serve as part of the center’s raptor education program.

The program's presenters answered questions and share information on the birds, birds that were referred to as "your birds".

This program was made possible with the help of a grant from the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation.

Also in the lake house was a display of wildlife art by local artist Dave Kintzel.
