Taking inspiration from a popular wizarding beverage, Yuengling’s Ice Cream announced Monday Butterbeer as a new flavor in its 18-flavor lineup.

Once described by J.K. Rowling “a little bit like less sickly butterscotch," the Yuengling’s Ice Cream take on the flavor will be made from half buttercream ice cream, half butterscotch ice cream, and twisted with a butterscotch swirl.

“We are always looking for ways to inspire our fans and spark creativity. Whether it's our flavor names and descriptions or the recipes themselves—we’re in the business of having fun,” said David Yuengling, President of Yuengling’s Ice Cream. “We hope we made J.K. Rowling proud with this flavor.”

Strawberry was also announced to the Yuengling’s Ice Cream lineup in response to popular demand. Yuengling’s Ice Cream says it often turns to social media to gauge customer interest levels and solicit fan feedback on new flavors. Strawberry has been a consistent request since the brand relaunched in 2014.

The two new flavors are currently available in pints, with quarts being made available in the coming months. For more information on Yuengling’s Ice Cream and for a store locator, visit YuenglingsIceCream.com

An alleged attempted robbery last week is under investigation.

According to Pottsville Police, On Thursday, 03/16/17 around 3:15pm Police were dispatched to a reported robbery involving a weapon at the Pottsville Motor Inn located at 480 North Claude A Lord Boulevard. When officers arrived, the business owner reported he was approached in a hotel room by a male suspect who brandished a knife. The male demanded money from the business owner, searched him, and then fled when he did not find any money. It was also reported that the suspect fled the area along with another white male in a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Through investigation and review of surveillance video, it was learned that Shy Kilraine-Richter, 27, of Minersville arrived at the business with two males, one being Charles Chadwell, 27, Luzerne County. Kilraine-Richter asked to see a room for rent and when the business owner took her to a room, Chadwell followed behind them and committed the attempted robbery. Kilraine-Richter was detained at the scene and interviewed at Pottsville City Hall by Detective Joseph Welsh at which time additional pertinent information to the investigation was revealed.

Following her interview, Kilraine-Richter was remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison on an Adult Probation detainer. A criminal complaint was prepared by Welsh charging Chadwell with Felony Criminal Attempt to Commit Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy, Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault and Possessing an Instrument of Crime. At approximately 2000hrs an arrest warrant was obtained for Chadwell.

Around 8:40pm, Pottsville Police Cpl. Brian Reno conducted a vehicle stop in the 400 block of East Norwegian Street on a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser matching the description of the vehicle used in this incident. Chadwell was found to be operating the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident. During a search incident to arrest Chadwell was found to be in possession of two (2) folding knives and three (3) syringes. Chadwell was subsequently arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Kilker and remanded to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $50,000.00 cash bail.

During the follow-up investigation it was discovered that Chadwell removed the original PA registration plate from the Chrysler and replaced it with another that had been stolen on Monday from a vehicle parked in Pottsville in the Arch Street lot, off N. Centre Street. Chadwell will be charged by Reno with theft of the registration plate, receiving stolen property, drug paraphernalia, and fraudulent use or removal of registration plate stemming from the vehicle stop.

This case is still under investigation and further charges are pending against Kilraine-Richter and the other male present in the vehicle.

Anyone with information on the matter is asked to call the Pottsville Bureau of Police at 570-628-3792.

Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale announced her candidacy for a second term in Magisterial District 21-2-01, Frackville.
“I am pleased to announce my intention to seek re-election,” Hale said. “Six years ago, I took an oath to support, obey and defend the Constitution and to discharge the duties of my office with fidelity. That is exactly what I have done for the past six years in a fair and ethical manner. It is a great honor to serve the public.”

Hale has cross-filed on both the Republican and Democratic tickets for the Pennsylvania primary on May 16, 2017.

She was elected in 2011 and took office in 2012 for her first full six-year term. Since 2012, Hale has handled a total of 20,375 cases in her capacity as magisterial district judge.

On March 4, Hale was officially endorsed by the Democrat party of Schuylkill County.

“I humbly thank the Democratic Party for the endorsement and ask both Republicans and Democrats for their ongoing support,” the judge said. “I pledge to continue to serve my constituents with respect and impartiality, if given the opportunity.”

Raised in Frackville, Hale is a lifelong resident of Schuylkill County.

After graduating from North Schuylkill High School, Penn State University and the Dickinson School of Law, she returned to Schuylkill County in 2001 where she practiced law for 12 years.

During her tenure as an attorney, Hale was named a five-time “Pennsylvania Superlawyer Rising Star” as published in Law and Politics and Philadelphia Magazine.

An active community and civic volunteer, Hale is a member of the North Schuylkill Spartan Nation Foundation; North Schuylkill PTO; St. Joseph’s Parish, Frackville; the Frackville Elks; the Pennsylvania Society; the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Daughters of Erin; Southend Field and Stream, Frackville; the Saint Clair Fish and Game Club; a board member of the Schuylkill County Bar Association; a team member of the Schuylkill County Drug Court; a past board member of the St. Joseph’s Center for Special Learning; a member of the Special Court Judges Association of Pennsylvania; and the District 10 Magisterial District Judges Association.

She also enjoys promoting confidence in the judiciary with myriad educational outreach activities.

From speaking with Boy Scouts, reading to kindergarten classes and serving as a guest lecturer for Penn State University criminal law students, Hale said she hopes to provide a public understanding of the administration of justice.

She has been enthusiastically welcomed as a guest lecturer, about important topics like texting and driving as well as cyberbullying by students and faculty at Blue Mountain High School, Shenandoah Valley High School, North Schuylkill High School, Saint Clair Middle School, and Mahanoy Area Middle School and Mahanoy Area High School.

Hale’s district court is located at 619 W. Oak St., Frackville, and includes the boroughs of Ashland, Frackville, Gilberton, Girardville, Gordon and Ringtown; Butler, North Union, Ryan and Union townships; and the Altamont precinct of West Mahanoy Township.

Hale said that magisterial district courts have primary jurisdiction over traffic and summary offenses, landlord-tenant matters and civil matters involving claims up to $12,000.

The courts are also the first stop for all misdemeanor and felony cases and magisterial district judges have the responsibility to assess whether there is probable cause for an arrest or search warrant, preside over evidentiary hearings and set bail.
