Holman Seeks Second Term as Schuylkill County District Attorney

Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine A. Holman has announced her intention to seek a second term.

Holman says her top priority continues to be keeping the people and families of Schuylkill County safe.

During her tenure, Holman has been continuing her efforts in fighting the war on drugs, helping local municipalities eradicate blight, and protecting our senior citizens and our children.

Holman has worked with law enforcement in multiple drug raids and has expanded the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force.

She is the first district attorney to highlight Schuylkill County’s Most Wanted list and partnered with the Republican Herald Newspaper. As a result of that partnership, many of our citizens identified those fugitives that were avoiding justice and living in our communities. With their help, they have been captured and returned to the criminal justice system. In addition, Holman has conducted coroner’s inquests to further investigations of unresolved death cases so families have closure.

Holman has also been the first District Attorney to take a proactive role in the fight against blight in our communities. She has formed an anti-blight task force known as ABATE (Anti-Blight Action Team & Enforcement). This group of state, county and local officials meets regularly to discuss anti blight measures and tools. She has also held educational seminars for code enforcement officials and is the first district attorney to prosecute negligent property owners of public nuisance charges. As a result, Holman is recognized statewide as an advocate for communities fighting this battle.

Holman has also worked diligently to reach out to Schuylkill County senior citizens. She routinely visits senior citizen groups to speak and listen to their concerns. Her office has produced “Scams and Solutions”, a booklet offering tips to senior citizens and non-profit organizations on how to avoid becoming a victim of a fraud.

Holman is a member of Schuylkill Elder Abuse Prevention Alliance (SEAPA), Pottsville Kiwanis, Tamaqua Business & Professional Women, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Schuylkill Council of Republican Women and was the recipient of the 2015 Schuylkill Chamber Businesswoman of the Year award. She is a graduate of North Schuylkill High School, a graduate of Penn State with a degree in marketing, and a graduate of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan. She served as an assistant district attorney for four years and had a successful private law practice in Frackville prior to her election as District Attorney.

Christine resides in Barnesville, Ryan Township with her husband Champ, and daughter Jacqueline Pitts. She has two stepchildren, David Holman and his wife Theresa and Jessica Kowalchick and her husband John. She also has four grandchildren, Ava and J. D. Kowalchick and Vienna and Max Holman.

Holman, who is the first female to be elected District Attorney, took office in January, 2014.

A man was not injured in crash on the two-miler late Thursday.

Just after 9:00pm, emergency personnel responded to the top of  Two Miler (Route 61 Mountain between Fountain Springs and Frackville), Butler Township,  for a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle over an embankment.

According to State Police at Frackville, A Dodge Durango, driven by Michael Ashline, 43 of Cornville, AZ was southbound on Route 61 ascending the hill and negotiating a sweeping left curve.

Police say the recent snowstorm had left roadside snow that had been blowing and drifting onto the roadway at various points.

These drifts were compacted into ice patches in spots on the otherwise dry roadway.

As Ashline continued his left curve, his vehicle hit one of these ice patches and the rear began to spin to the right.

Ashline's vehicle continued rotating counterclockwise approximately 100 degrees and slid across the northbound lane and shoulder then went off the northbound shoulder and down a 20 foot ditch embankment before striking a small tree with it's right front fender.

Ashline had been securely seatbelted and no airbag deployed. He was uninjured.

Ashline  was to call his own AAA provided tow service. It was determined at the time that the best course of action would be to tow the vehicle back onto the roadway in the daylight hours the next day for safety reasons.

Penndot road maintenance (plow/salt trucks) continued treating the roadway.

Englewood Fire Company, Frackville, assisted at the scene.
