A Schuylkill Haven man died in a crash in Berks County Friday morning.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, on Friday morning around 6:20am, PSP Hamburg responded to a two vehicle crash with entrapment that occurred at the intersection of the exit 19 off ramp and SR183 in Berks County.

Police say a 2014 Toyota Sienna mini-van, driven by an unidentified driven and a passenger, exited Interstate 78 W/B onto the off ramp at a high rate of speed.  A second vehicle, a 1995 Buick, driven by Keith Krammes, 56, of Schuylkill Haven was traveling south on Route 183.

The Minivan reportedly failed to negotiate a curve at the top of the ramp and collided into Krames driver side.

The operator of Mini-van was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment.

A passenger in the mini-van was found outside of the vehicle and was detained upon PSP arrival.

Krammes was extricated by Fire/EMS and flown to LVH Cedar Crest where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.

Troop L FSU and CARS responded and processed the scene, Route 183 as closed during the investigation.

The mini-van was towed and impounded at PSP Hamburg due to being reported stolen.  The owner of the mini-van was notified by Nashua, New Hampshire Police and she stated that her daughter had the vehicle in the Allentown area.  The daughter reported the mini-van stolen from the Comfort Inn in Upper Macungie Twp., Lehigh County.

The stolen mini-van was also reported to be involved in an incident a half hour earlier.

Around 5:50am, PSP Hamburg responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 78 westbound at MM 24.1.

An investigation revealed that a 2003 Ford Focus had crashed into the center median barrier while traveling at a high rate of speed and became disabled.

EMS was called and upon arrival they observed two males off-loading contents out of the Focus into a silver mini-van.  After loading all contents into the van, they fled west on I 78 at a high rate of speed.

Upon arrival of PSP, a registration query indicated that the mini-van was reported stolen out of PSP Bethlehem.

Prescribed Burn Scheduled near Southwestern Schuylkill County Line in Lebanon County on Monday

$

(03/19/18) The Pennsylvania Game Commission has scheduled a prescribed burn in Swatara Township, Lebanon County for Monday.

According to the Game Commission, the prescribed burn will take place on March 19, 2018 in Swatara Township, Lebaonon County, near the Schuylkill County line near Pine Grove.  Smoke from the burn should be visible from the Pine Grove/Southwstern area of Schuylkill County.

State Game Lands 80, totaling 10,688 acres, is located in northern Lebanon County. It contains a wide variety of habitat types within its borders and is home to a multitude of different wildlife species.  Since over 98% of this State Game Lands is forested and 72% of that area consists of mixed oak forests, the use of a controlled burn is very appropriate.

The area to be treated with a controlled burn is 103 acres in size and is located in Swatara Township, Lebanon County.  This burn consists of two separate burn units.  Part of burn unit 1 consists of a recent regeneration cut while the remainder of the units is a mature oak stand that is dominated by chestnut oak, red oak and black oak.

Forest fires were a common occurrence on this ridge in the early 1900’s, which led to the establishment of this oak stand.  The combination of a lack of fire over the past 70 years and increased sunlight reaching the forest floor due to openings in the forest canopy, has led to a dense non-oak understory.

The goal of this controlled burn is to recreate the conditions that led to the establishment of this aging oak forest and to release oak seedlings in the recent regeneration cut.  Currently there is a large amount of birch, yellow poplar, sassafras, black gum and red maple seedlings that are overtopping and shading existing oak seedlings.  If this condition continues, these oak seedlings will eventually be crowded out and die.  A controlled burn will remove a large number of these competing seedlings and allow the oak seedlings to grow and thrive.

For the first time in 17 years, Yuengling has added a new year round beer to it's portfolio.

On Monday morning, at the Yuengling Mill Creek facility in Pottsville, Jennifer Yuengling, a 6th generation brewer with D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. made the announcement as the first beer came off the line.

D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., America’s Oldest Brewery®, is adding a new beer to its iconic core product portfolio, Yuengling Golden Pilsner, a modern pilsner crafted with the perfect balance of hop and malt character for crisp, smooth refreshment. Born from six generations of brewing expertise, Golden Pilsner is Yuengling’s first year-round beer to debut in 17 years.

“Yuengling Golden Pilsner is our unique interpretation of a refreshing pilsner, with all of the qualities consumers have come to expect from Yuengling in a beer that is highly sessionable and full of flavor,” said Jen Yuengling, 6th generation brewer, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. “We continue to listen to our fans and we saw an opportunity to deliver a new Yuengling beer that complements our core portfolio of iconic beers including Traditional Lager, Light Lager, and Black & Tan.”

At 4.7% ABV and 135 calories, Yuengling Golden Pilsner – an all malt beer – combines pale and specialty malts, and Hallertau and Saaz hops, to create a bold, noble hop flavored brew that finishes with a smooth, clean finish. The balance of flavors and enhanced drinkability offers a “New Standard in Refreshment” for beer drinkers. “We spent over 18 months developing this beer and believe it is a great choice for outdoor, social and active occasions. We’re excited for consumers to try it,” said Yuengling.
