Just after 1:00am, emergency personnel were called to 634 West Bacon Street, Palo Alto for a working structure fire.
Arriving crews found heavy smoke and the rear of the home fully involved.
Temperatures at the time of the fire crews responding is 7 degrees in Pottsville.

Robert F. Trezise, 86 years of age formerly of Tamaqua, died on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Schuylkill Medical Center East in Pottsville.
A 1949 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Bob had worked at the school district for many years. He was a member of Trinity U.C.C. of Tamaqua, and was a car enthusiast and member of the East End Fire Company.
Born Wednesday, September 30, 1931 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania son of the late Jessie M., and Esther A. (Frasher) Trezise. He was also predeceased by his son, Kevin R. Trezise on May 15, 2012.

Raymond W. Haas, devoted husband, father brother and grandfather of Hickory Drive, Auburn, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Laurel Lving Center in Hamburg, Pennsylvania at the age of 86.
Survived by his wife of sixty-four years Ellen (Miller) Haas; daughters, Mary Gavenas and her companion Randy Swingle, Sr. of Shickshinny, Sally Ann Hager and her husband Joseph of Elysburg; son, Walter Haas and his wife Karen of St. Clair; sisters, Eleanor Miller and her husband Morris of Andreas, Dorothy Fritz and her husband Arthur of Lehighton; brothers, Leonard Haas and his wife Marion of Palmerton, Joseph Haas and his wife Laverne of Andreas; grand children, Amanda Hartranft, Kimberly Williams, Jesse Gavenas, Wayne Gavenas, Jennifer Gavenas, Alyssa Hager, Bryce Hager, Jason Mitchel, and Daniel Mitchel 8 great grand children.
Born Thursday, July 23, 1931 in Andreas, Pennsylvania the son of the late Walter H., and Beatrice (Benderowicz) Haas. He was also predeceased by his son, Raymond J. Haas on October 8, 2000.
A member of the Hamburg Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall. Raymond was a well know area mechanic who owned and operated his own garage with his late son, Sonny & Ray Haas Automotive of Auburn. Many referred to Raymond as having his doctor of motors for he could fix anything.
Customers affectionately called him "Peter Rabbit". He and Sonny collected Hit & Miss engines traveling to shows in Jackstown, and Kintzers. Ray served as lead mechanic for Laudon Pott's Racing, racing on tracks from Port Royal to Shanetown and throughout the area.

Anthony J. Perneta Jr., 74, of Frackville, PA passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his residence. Born January 25, 1943 in Girardville, PA the son of the late Anthony Sr. and Mary (Subick) Perneta. Anthony graduated from Frackville High School. He was last employed at Alcoa in Cressona, PA until retirement. He was a member of the St. Joseph's The Worker Parish, Frackville, PA. In life he enjoyed being outdoors, mostly fishing and attending his grandchildrens sporting events.
Anthony is survived by a wife: Elizabeth (Michaels) Perneta. Two daughters and a son: Debrah wife of John Schofflar; Diane "Dee" Perneta; Kevin husband of Melissa Perneta all of Frackville, PA. Five grandchildren: Tonya and Kimberly Schofflar; Tyler, Aaron, and Nicholas Perneta. One great grandchild: Emalynn Boyer.

He was the husband of Donna Jeanne (nee Spack) Yatcilla. Born in Frackville, PA on May 3, 1949, William was a son of the late William C. “Whitey” Yatcilla, Sr. and Kathryn B. “Kitty” (nee McClusky) Yatcilla. A high school graduate who attended college, he also received GM Training and worked for Kovatch Motors, Nesquehoning on fire truck assembly. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church, Barnesville, PA where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and was involved with the Easter and Christmas Cantatas making props.
In addition to his wife Donna, William is survived by step children Russell Troy Gilbert of Hometown, Darrell Todd Gilbert of Hauto Village, PA, Shawn Eric Gilbert of Hometown, and Terrance Andre’ Gilbert of Tamaqua, PA; 3 granddaughters; a grandson; and a brother Thomas Yatcilla and his wife Linda of Frackville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 8 in St. Richard Catholic Church, 799 Barnesville Drive, Barnesville. Interment in Sky View Memorial Park, 108 Lafayette Avenue, Hometown will follow the mass. TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 61 Northbound Closed near Deer Lake
Around 2:15pm, emergency personnel were called to the intersection of Route 61 and Municipal Road for a 2 vehicle crash with entrapment.
At least one person was reported to have been trapped in one of the vehicles. That person was extricated and transported to a landing zone where they will be flown to an area hospital.
As of 2:55pm, the Northbound lanes of Route 61 were closed while the crash is cleared.

Police Seeking Suspect Involved in Burglary and Attempted Robbery
The Pottsville Police have an active arrest warrant and are seeking the whereabouts of a man involved in the Burglary and Attempted Robbery of a man on Christmas Eve morning in the City.
According to Police, Michael Joseph Kopinetz, 47, last known address in Port Carbon, is currently being sought for Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Criminal Trespass for the incident in which Michael Joseph Clark is already being housed in Schuylkill Prison.
Kopinetz is known to have ties to Frackville, Shenandoah, and the Reading area of Berks County.
Anyone with information of Kopinetz’ whereabouts is asked to call the Pottsville Bureau of Police at 570-628-3792 or 570-622-1234 ext. #332.

Route 61 Reopens After Fatal Crash
Route 61 has reopened after a fatal crash near Deer Lake Friday afternoon.
Around 2:15pm, emergency personnel were called to the intersection of Route 61 and Municipal Road for a 2 vehicle crash with entrapment.
At least one person was reported to have been trapped in one of the vehicles and was extricated.
A county coroner was later called where one of the victims was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
Northbound lanes of Route 61 in the area were closed until just before 6:00pm when the highway reopened.

Max Schwartz, age 97, of Tamaqua, PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in South Nassau Communities Hospital on Long Island, NY. Max was born in Tamaqua to the late Isadore and Rose (Goldberg) Schwartz on April 1, 1920. He was married to the late Blanche Paperman of Weissport, PA for 67 years.
Max is survived by three children: Carolyn of South Windsor, CT, married to Dr. Gerald Schwartz; Aleta of East Rockaway, NY, married to Ariel Grunberg; and Attorney Marvin Schwartz of Whitehall, PA, married to Susan (Nagle). Grandchildren: Rochelle (Schwartz), married to Steven Cosman; Brent Schwartz, married to Marleen (Rothman); Rebecca (Grunberg), married to Michael Schuchman; Stephanie (Grunberg), married to Dr. David Goldstein; and Chad Schwartz. Great-grandchildren: Allyson, Bailey, and Jordan Cosman; Benjamin and Elyse Schwartz; Emma and Bar Schuchman; and Avi and Eli Goldstein. Max had two brothers: Albert Schwartz of Rockville, MD and the late Sidney Schwartz of Hazleton, PA.
Max proudly served in the 12th Armored Division of the U.S. Army during WWII in France and Germany, and he routinely attended army reunions throughout the years. After the war, Max returned home to run the family window cleaning business (Reliable Window Cleaners) with his father and brother Sidney. Max cleaned windows in Tamaqua and surrounding communities, and he continued to work until the age of 92. He was beloved and well known in these communities. Max’s window cleaning equipment will be donated to the Tamaqua Historical Society for display in the society’s museum.
Max was an active member of the Tamaqua American Legion and Tamaqua Elks Lodge, and he was in the bowling league with each organization. Max was also a member of the former Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Tamaqua, the Temple Israel Synagogue in Lehighton, and the Agudas Israel Synagogue in Hazleton. He travelled extensively with his family, having recently visited Israel and the Panama Canal. Max enjoyed telling stories about Tamaqua and surrounding communities, recounting nearly a hundred years of history.

Defrosting of Pipes Blamed for Girardville Fire
The defrosting of frozen pipes in Girardville are to blame for a house fire on Saturday.
Just after 12:30pm, Saturday, emergency personnel were called to 261 North 5th Street in Girardville for a working structure fire.
The Rangers Fire and Girard Hose received the initial call with Ashland's Washington Ladder being added later.
The fire was reportedly started when someone was defrosting frozen pipes in the kitchen of the home that led to a wall catching fire and spreading to the second floor.
Smoke was visible from outside the home with interior crews calling the fire out in just over a half hour.
Ashland's Washington Ladder was called to inspect the fire from the exterior.
Fire crews began leaving the scene around 2:30pm.

Erma F Sweigart, age 85, of the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Barry Twp, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - E Norwegian, Pottsville.
She was born on Tuesday, March 15, 1932, in Barry Twp.
She was a 1950 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School.
She was a member of Barry Salem United Methodist Church, Weishample.
Erma enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her husband Allen Sweigart passed away in 2000.
She is survived by two sons, Allen Sweigart and his wife Helen of Ashland and Alvin Sweigart and his wife Pam of Ashland; five daughters, Susan Longenecker of Pine Grove, Ruth Barshinger and her husband Bill of Ono, Mary Rainis and her husband Mike of Ashland, Donna Dyszel and her husband John of Orange Park, FL, and Esther Reeder of Shamokin; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Fehr of Pottstown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Bob Kensinger officiating.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in the Church of God Cemetery, Weishample.

Mark E. Widel, 57, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday at his residence.
Mark was born in Pottsville, Oct. 4, 1960, a son of Mary Lou Ward and Edward F. "Buddy" Widel, of Orwigsburg.
He was the husband of Mary T. "Terry" Donahue Duffy Widel.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.
Mark was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School, Class of 1978.
Prior to his retirement, Mark worked as the purchasing agent at Thermo Dynamics Boiler Co., Schuylkill Haven, and then as the purchasing agent/salesman for Columbia Boiler Co., Pottstown.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by brothers, Gregory Widel, Ohio, and Michael Widel, Leesport; fur baby, Bailey; aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, with Monsignor William Glosser officiating. No viewing or visitation will be held prior. The family requests donations to St. Ambrose Church Memorial Fund, 201 Randel St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972. Kathleen D. Somers, 88, formerly of Pottsville, entered into eternal rest Saturday morning at Seton Manor.
Born December 2, 1929, in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude (Penberth) Somers.
She was a Graduate of Pottsville High School and a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Lois Wingle and a brother Robert Somers.
Kathleen is survived by brothers James Somers, Pottsville; Gerald Somers, Whitehall; and George Somers, Phoenix Park; and a sister Patricia Boran, Orwigsburg. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Wednesday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville with Msgr. Edward O’Connor, Officiating. Prior to his retirement, Mark worked as the purchasing agent at Thermo Dynamics Boiler Co., Schuylkill Haven, and then as the purchasing agent/salesman for Columbia Boiler Co., Pottstown.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by brothers, Gregory Widel, Ohio, and Michael Widel, Leesport; fur baby, Bailey; aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, with Monsignor William Glosser officiating. No viewing or visitation will be held prior. The family requests donations to St. Ambrose Church Memorial Fund, 201 Randel St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972. Interment will be at Saint Ambrose Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.

Kathleen D. Somers, 88, formerly of Pottsville, entered into eternal rest Saturday morning at Seton Manor.
Born December 2, 1929, in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude (Penberth) Somers.
She was a Graduate of Pottsville High School and a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Lois Wingle and a brother Robert Somers.
Kathleen is survived by brothers James Somers, Pottsville; Gerald Somers, Whitehall; and George Somers, Phoenix Park; and a sister Patricia Boran, Orwigsburg. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Wednesday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville with Msgr. Edward O’Connor, Officiating. Family and friends are respectfully invited to call Wednesday from 10AM until the time of Mass at the Church. Interment will be held at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Hillside.
The family would prefer donations be made in Kathleen’s name to St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund 319 Mahantongo Street Pottsville PA 17901.

Charles John (“Frank”, “3”) Biscoe died Saturday, January 6 at his home in Mahanoy City at the age of 52.
Charles was born on April 3, 1965 in Gilberton to Joseph and Edith (Thomas) Biscoe.
Charles served in the US Army National Guard, and was awarded a number medals and commendations during his service. He was a former employee of Rockwell International, Lift Incorporated, and Gilberton Borough. His last employment was as head grounds keeper at Blue Mountain Fishing Lakes. Charlie’s biggest passion was rooting for all of his nieces and nephews. A lifelong Nascar fan, he once went as far as painting his Monte Carlo with a #3 to show what a big fan he was of Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
Charlie is survived by 6 sisters and 2 brothers: Marbeth “Betsy” Biscoe, Blue Mountain Lakes; Stephen and wife Michelle Biscoe, Mahanoy City; Mary Lou and husband Bill Hannon, Mahanoy Plane; Ida Biscoe, Mahanoy City; Joseph and wife Mary Biscoe, Barnesville; Ann Marie and husband Gary Schaeffer, New Tripoli; Helen and husband Terry Boyle, Scranton; Julie and husband Bill Fazio, Jr., Mahanoy City. Charles is also survived by an Aunt Bernice Yackera of Girardville, several great aunts and uncles, 24 nieces and nephews, 35 great nieces and nephews, and many cousins, and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian, in 1985; and by a niece, Ashley, in 2014.
A Religious Service will be held at the Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Mahanoy City, at 7 pm on Wednesday, January 10th, with Rev Jack Murray officiating.
Friends may call Wednesday 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
Family prefers donations be made in memory of Charles J. Biscoe to Gilberton United Methodist Church.

John J. Strenchock, 72, Bloomsburg, formerly of Shenandoah, passed into eternal rest on Saturday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late John and Stella Opanel Strenchock. John had a career in banking and finance and was the owner of Quest Finance and Insurance Center in Berwick.
John was an Army veteran having served in the reserves. He was true sports fan and an avid golfer, with many tournament wins. He was a member of the Mahoning Valley, Frosty Valley and Berwick Country Clubs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Harnatkavage.
John is survived by his two daughters: Jamie Lee Strenchock, Los Angeles, CA and Johnna Strenchock, Pleasant Hill, CA; his sister, Donna and her husband Bernie Sanders of Shenandoah and also by nieces.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Sheila M. Berzowski, 68, of Minersville, passed away Monday morning at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.
Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of Mary K. O’Brian Steranko and the late Leonard J. Steranko.
She was a retired secretary having worked for the DMS Corp. She was a 1967 graduate of Minersville Area High School and was a member of the 50th Class Reunion Committee. She attended St. Vincent De Paul grade school and was a member of the former St. Vincent De Paul Church and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Minersville.
She was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society and the “Crafty Quilters” of St. Michael The Archangel Church. She was a member of the Blue Army and was a captain at the “America Needs Fatima” rally of 2007.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Lynn Michele M. Becker, Duncott; 2 sons, Erik Leonard J. Berzowski, at home and Marc Edward A. Berzowski and his wife Sara, Echo Valley; 9 grandchildren; a sister Marita Steranko Beach, Minersville; 2 brothers, Michael J. Steranko, Schoentown and Joseph J. Steranko, McKeansburg; nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Michel the Archangel Church, 539 Sunbury St., Minersville on Saturday January 13 from 9 to 10AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis will officiate. Interment at the convenience of the family will be in St. Vincent De Paul #2 Cemetery.

Born in Mount Carmel, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Edna Zinda Melincavage. She was a 1943 graduate of Cass Township High School. She worked in Perth Amboy, New Jersey during World War Two. After returning home, she was employed in the local garment industry, then worked in school cafeterias at the former Duncott School and the Minersville High School.
She was a member of the former St. Vincent de Paul Church, Minersville and was a current member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Minersville.
Teresa’s greatest joys throughout her life were her roles as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Preceding her in death was a daughter, Kathleen “Kay” Santai, in 2009; five brothers, Raymond, who was killed during World War Two, Anthony, Martin, Edward and John; a sister, Marcella Long.
Teresa is survived by her husband of 69 years; Francis “Frank” Delaney; two daughters, Diane Morasky (spouse, David), Primrose, and Janet Mitchell (spouse, Michael), Buck Run; a son, Francis Delaney, Jr. (spouse, Michelle), Zerbe. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Amy Santai, Brett Santai, Nicholas Mitchell, Kelsey Mitchell, Matthew Delaney and Shawn Delaney; three great-grandchildren, Collin, Aileen and Fitzpatrick; a son-in-law, James Santai, Marlin; nieces and nephews.

Police Investigating Retail Theft
Police are investigating a retail theft at the Saint Clair Wal-Mart.
The Saint Clair Police are investigating a retail theft which occurred at Wal-Mart on 12/22/2017 at 4:30am.
The suspect pictured is believed to be wearing a "realistic style" mask in during the incident.
The suspect was operating a silver in color KIA SUV with an unknown registration.

Fire Crews Called to Shed Fire Sunday Evening
Fire crews were called to a shed fire in West Mahanoy Township Sunday Evening.
Just after 7:30pm, a fire chief was called to 1159 West Centre Street, West Mahanoy Township for a smoke investigation.
A William Penn Fire Chief arrived to find smoke showing and confirmed a working fire.
After crews arrived they had the fire out within minutes.
