Verna G. Mattern, 94, of Pumpkin Center Road Klingerstown, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Green Valley Skilled Nursing Center, Pitman.
Verna was born in Franklin Square on April 19, 1921, a daughter of the late Daniel and Mayme (Haas) Geist.
In her younger years she was active on the family farm.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and was a member of its former Lutheran Women's Group.
She was a former member of the Daughters of America, the Idella Rebekah Lodge #58 and the Mahantongo Fire Company Auxiliary where she had served as treasurer. She was an active member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge of Pitman where she was a past president.
She enjoyed quilting and crocheting for at least 80 years.
On December 24, 1938 she married Willard S. Mattern who passed away January 24, 1994.
She is survived by two daughters Delphine Brown of Klingerstown and Dawn Snook and her husband Rodney of Lykens; 4 grandchildren, Kevin and his wife Darlene Brown, Kyle and his wife Lori Brown, Kurt Brown, Jason and his wife Casey Smeltz; 7 great grandchildren, Kimber Brown and his wife Stacey, Dana Brown, Kody, Keli, Kara Brown, Zoey and Taygen Smeltz.
She was preceded in death by a grandson Jeremy Smeltz, a son-in-law Harvey Brown; siblings Edna Kehler, Jennie Wolfgang, Lillian Maurer, Betty Wilson and Leon "Bud" Geist; and her longtime companion Russell Engle.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, November 21 from 1-2 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Leck Kill with the funeral service following at 2 PM with Rev. Harold Wolfgang officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Donna Marie Ulrich, age 52, of Middleport, PA passed away Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown.
Born in Pottsville, PA on January 24, 1963, she was the daughter of the late Clair A. Zimmerman and Jean E. (Smith) Zimmerman who survives her in Cressona.
Donna was a graduate of Blue Mountain High School, Class of 1980 and then later attended and graduated from the McCann Business School in Pottsville as a Medical Records Technician.
Donna first worked as a transcriptionist for the Coaldale Hospital and then as a dietary aide for the Schuylkill Medical Center, South in Pottsville. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her Mother, Donna is survived by her husband of 26 years, Daniel P. Ulrich, Middleport; daughter Skye Ulrich, Pottsville; son Drake Ulrich and his wife Bethany, New Philadelphia; 3 grandchildren: Harley, Harmony, and Lucas; sister Debra J. Miller, Cressona; brother David C. Zimmerman, Schuylkill Haven; brother Randy L. Zimmerman, Mohnton; sister Diane E. Miller, Temple; brother Richard C. Zimmerman, Cressona; sister Robin L. Haas, Cressona; and nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday evening from 7-9PM at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike Street, Port Carbon.
Interment will be held private at convenience of the family.
