Michael Ploxa Jr., 73, lifelong resident of Englewood, Frackville, passed away peacefully Friday morning at his residence, with his family at his side.
Born in Fountain Springs he was a son of the late Michael Sr. and Mary ( Ritzko ) Ploxa. He had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for Reading Anthracite until his retirement in 1994.
He was a 1959 graduate of the former Butler Township High School, former assistant chief of police with the Butler Township Police Department. He was also past president of local # 807, Maple Hill, United Mine Workers Union and member of the United Mine Workers of America.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Alice A. Ploxa on June 30, 2015 and also by his twin brother William Ploxa.
Mike is survived by his two sons; William Ploxa, Fountain Springs and Michael and his wife Beth Ploxa, Englewood, Frackville, his sister Carol Petrusky, Fountain Springs and his three grandchildren; Morgan and William Ploxa and David Pearson.
Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Sonya A Herring, age 54, of Valley View, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, Ocotber 29, 2015. She was surrounded by her family at her home.
She was born on Friday, September 22, 1961, in Pottsville, a daughter of Clyde H "Rusty" Miller and Anna G Clark Miller of Hegins.
She was a 1979 graduate of Tri-Valley High School.
She was an office manager at the former Midway Supermarket.
She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.
Sonya was a Longaberger and Mary Kay consultant.
She is survived by her husband Dennis D "Crazy" Herring, to whom she was married for 36 years.
Surviving in addition to her parents and her husband are a son, Joshua D Herring and his wife Sara of Valley View; a daughter, Angela A Stiely and her husband Timothy of Hegins; two grandsons, Carsyn K Stiely and Camdyn R Stiely; two granddaughters, Kendra A Stiely and Kinsley A Stiely; and a brother, Steve C Miller of Hegins.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View.
