Margaret E. Sterner, age 86, of Port Carbon, PA passed away with her loving family by her side on Friday, October 23rd, 2015 at her home.
Born in New Philadelphia, PA on September 12, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Grace (Lickman) Weldon.
Margaret was a graduate of Soldier's Memorial High School, Class of 1948. She worked for Van Heusen in Pottsville and then for H.L. Miller and Son's in Port Carbon.
She was a member of the St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon, a social member of the Goodwill Fire Company in Port Carbon, and she loved doing crossword puzzles and cooking.
Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, John L. Sterner Sr. on September 23, 2012, a son John L. Sterner Jr., 3 sisters: Dorothy Liddick, Anna Jergovic, and Mary Ciesla, and 3 brothers: John, William, and Joseph Weldon.
Margaret is survived by her daughter and caregiver Carol A. Haslam, Port Carbon; son Edward M. Sterner and his wife Linda, Pottsville; son William D. Sterner, Port Carbon; daughter Susan M. Sterner, Pottsville; ; She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon at 10AM on Wednesday, October 28th, with Rev. David W. Karns officiating.
At the family's request there will be no visitation or procession from the funeral home to the church.
Interment will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Foundation.
