Russell Vandermartin, age 68, of Pottsville, PA passed away Friday, September 25th, 2015 at his home.
Born in Pottsville , PA on November 3, 1946, he was the son of the late John and Annette (Galinsky) Vandermartin.
Russ was a graduate of St. Clair High School, Class of 1964. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a SGT over in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Russ worked at Exon before going into the Pennsylvania State Police Academy He was a Pennsylvania State Trooper for 21 years from 1973-1994 and then went to work for Boyers IGA as a courier for 16 years..
He was a member of the St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon, a member of the F.O.P. Lodge # 65 Philip C. Melley, and the American Legion Post # 945 in Pottsville..
He loved doing wood working and especially spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their sporting events
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half sister Dolly Natoli and a half brother Gene Bosco.
Russ is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann (Wabby) Vandermartin; 2 daughters: Lisa Sweyko and her husband Andy and Lori Onsuskanich and her husband Joey; a son Mark Vandermartin and his wife Jenn;
6 grandchildren: Jason and Jenna Marrow, Tyler and Lexis Vandermartin, and Brooke and Jonathan Onuskanich; 2 step grandchildren: Alyssa and Andrew Sweyko a brother John Vandermartin; a sister-in-law Elaine Martin; ; and nieces and nephews
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon, PA. at 10AM on Wednesday, September 30th, with Rev. David W. Karns officiating.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday 6-9PM and Wednesday 8:30-9:30AM at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon.
Interment with Military Honors will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in Schuylkill Haven, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Stephen's Church Memorial Fund, 218 Valley St., Port Carbon, PA 17965
