Congressman Dan Meuser Tests Positive for COVID-19

On Saturday, Congressman Dan Meuser announced he has tested positive for COVID-19 and would not be present for a vote on Saturday.

In a press release Meuser said in a statement:

“As your member of Congress, I wanted to inform you that, very unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19. I have been following all CDC health and safety guidelines, and will be taking all necessary actions, including postponing upcoming public events and working from home in quarantine until I receive a negative test result. I am thankful to God that my grown children were not at home and that my wife Shelley has tested negative.

“Because of this, I will not be present or voting today on H.R. 8015. I will, however, submit for the record that I would have voted ‘NAY.’ I will always support a strong, effective post office. They should be provided the resources they need to perform at a high level of excellence. In response to pandemic-related challenges, Congress provided the agency with a $10 billion loan through the CARES Act. To date, the USPS has not yet seen the need to access this lending authority to fund its operations. In spite of COVID-19 related setbacks affecting all private and public sector operations, the Postmaster General has assured the American public that the USPS is fully capable of delivering the nation's election mail on time and that any changes in operations at the agency have been suspended until after the election. Calls from Democrats to direct $25 billion to the USPS are not reflective of the data or the reality of the situation.”

On Monday, FEMA announced that FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor approved Pennsylvania for a FEMA grant under the Lost Wages Assistance program.

The grant funding from FEMA will Pennsylvania to provide $300 per week to those unemployed due to COVID-19.  The additional money will be received on top of the person's regular unemployment benefit.

According to FEMA, the assistance is intended to help people support themselves and their families as they look for work. An extra $300 per week will help those struggling with unemployment to buy school supplies for their children, put food on the table and possibly prevent eviction.

FEMA says it will work with Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf to implement a system to make this funding available to Pennsylvania residents.

Savage 61 Night this Friday August 28th at Big Diamond Speedway

Big Diamond returns to action this Friday night August 28th with Savage 61 night at the speedway.

Savage 61 is the title sponsor for the Crate 602 Sportsman and have been a supporter of Big Diamond Speedway for years.

This Friday was originally supposed to be the final of points for the Insigner Performance Modifieds but due to the start of the season being delayed due to the pandemic, the points title battle will now head into September. Look for a schedule of the September events to be released sometime next week.

Mike Gular continues to lead the way in the chase for the 2020 points title with Jeff Strunk and Craig Von Dohren following closely behind. Jeff Strunk was the latest modified winner and will look to keep that momentum rolling this week when the Modifieds will race for $3000 in their 25-lap main event.

Both the USS Achey Open Sportsman and the Savage 61 Crate 602 division will run their 20-lap features with the winners receiving $800. The Sportsman divisions have been drastically different in 2020 with Brad Brightbill and Brandon Edgar dominating the Open Sportsman with three wins each. In direct contrast to that would be the Crate 602 divisiion which has not had a repeat winner all season.

The Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunners will race their 20-lap feature for $325 while the Hellers Gas Street Stocks will round out the evening’s card with a $600 to win 20-lap feature.

Gates will open at 5:30, with warm-ups getting underway at 7:15. Racing begins at 7:45.

General admission for Friday is $20, Seniors $18. Kids 16 and under are free. Active military with ID are also admitted free of charge.

Of course, once this Friday’s racing is completed all eyes will turn to the Jack Rich, Inc Coalcracker weekend with the winner of this seasons Coalcracker 72 for the Insigner Performance Modifeds paying $17,000.

If you cannot make it to the track, all the action will be available via pay-per-view on dirttrackdigest.tv
